Half way through it devolved into a Harry Potter time traveler labyrinth. I barely traversed the quagmire only to stand at a cliff hanger ending.

Inmon gives us a refreshing take on the subgenre of apocalyptic fiction. As usual, his characters are strong, developed, and interesting. Unlike Middle Falls, the setting for Altor is pure science fiction and deserves attention as many of the utopian themes center on the abilities of an AI that may be prescient of our near future.

Ed Snowden gives his side of the story. It's logical, confined, and tight, without any dangling subplots. The climax is well developed and the love theme is nicely wrapped up at the end. I was expecting a boring memoir. But this is a story that stands on its own. It might help if the reader understands his privacy concerns. That part is a bit technical. Yet the general idea is simple. Ed makes me wonder if my privacy rights are being violated and what might be the consequences.

Mediocre Multiverse

The Multiverse device is but just a simple plot device, nothing profound to make you ponder. Similarly, the story stimulates little thought. But Riddle is an expert and the characters, transitions, and settings are polished. Also he has added a few plot twists. Though, as with most fast action books, the characters lack much development and many action scenes feel contrived. His theme of resolving hurt between a parent and young adult child is very well developed and is the gemstone in the book. At the two-thirds mark I almost deleted the book but Ray Porter's performance salvaged it. Clearly Riddle intends to make this a series. The young adult male audience will probably enjoy it. More mature listeners, already tired of the trope, will want to pass.

A well crafted, albeit contrived, fiction with a beguiling introduction. The premise of this work is the debunking of alien intervention in our lives which some may find disheartening.

I find stories written by men more relatable, except for this one. Though the main character is unabashedly a woman, her journey is similar to most male heros. The characters are fascinating, albeit rather flat, but that's the trade-off for all the action. It feels a lot like Firefly and a bit like The Expanse. I'd give it a PG-13 rating. There is some violence, sexual innuendoes, but no foul language.

A Delightful World with a Believable Hero

An altogether enjoyable read. I appreciate that Inomn is a tidy writer. He's so efficient, though, that a few places require an inductive leap, which may frustrate some readers.
Being the first of a series, this book spends more time building the world than a cast of characters. So, efforts on building character focuses, understandably, on our hero. Given Inmon's other successes, I fully expect greater character depth will develop with the series. It may even evolve into more of a drama.
The narrator's performance is splendid. I appreciate his consistent pronunciation of the the world's language. Also his cadence and inflection enhance the text. This is exactly why I feel audio books can be superior, in some cases, to plain text.
If you enjoy portal worlds, then I think you'll delight in what Shawn Inmon has created here.

An excellent sf military novel without (thankfully) a socio-political agenda. The hero's arc is well developed. The world is interesting, mostly focused on the battle mech. Good supporting characters without any unnecessary shocking deaths. This is clearly a series.

Warning: Liberal Indoctrination Begins Here

PROS:
Book #1 rocks! Birmingham is a talented writer. He creates a rich world and varied cast. The antagonist is well developed throughout the trilogy.

CONS:
There is no hero's arc, only a gradual unveiling that becomes clear in book #3.
Birmingham hits all the liberal high notes in perfect pitch. If you're not onboard with the liberal agenda then just walk away.
With book #2 onward expect the full agenda download. Homosexuality. Religion. Feminist equality (superiority?). Diversity. Preppers. Ad nauseum.
Underneath the literal text lies an allegory of an ugly divorce whereby the lesbian ex-wife, a protagonist, gets custody from the father, an antagonist.

Book #3 Fails Wrap Up

Revisado: 01-11-22

Standing by itself, book #3 is okay if you like mortals versus the gods. As the bookend to a trilogy, it just fails. I was concerned at the end of book #2 when our hero "supposedly" dies. Our hero does finally complete his arc at the end. Meanwhile you must endure the development of other characters, who for the first half of the book usurp our hero.

I liked how Tassi managed transitioning subgenres in book #1 from post invasion apocalypse to space opera. But book #3 is just too dark, practically demonic, as he interweaves a new antagonist and another subgenre. The transition is just too much. I found it difficult to believe. The whole man vs god, if it must even happen, should be saved for after the trilogy.
