Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

I was there, in the marsh!
Revisado: 01-04-23
Excellent story, beautifully written. The insights about the marsh are interesting. Kaya, the heroine, struggles against illiteracy, family abandonment, and ostracizing, and her determination to overcome it all left me humbled and inspired. The narration is outstanding! Cassandra Campbell can get into every character so we can hear and experience their personalities and soul. Her descriptions of the marsh and town transported me there too! I've listened twice. Love it! Highly recommend!

Historia
Secrets beget lies. Lies beget secrets. Four years after closing the gruesome murder of church Elder Dennis Gregg, Detective Joi Sommers and her partner Russell Wilkerson are summoned to a South Suburban commuter college where the body of a sexy coed is found garroted in the chemistry lab. From their first horrified glimpse at the corpse they recognize they have been tasked with an extraordinary case. The evidentiary trail leads them to similarly murdered victims. Is this a pattern, or a series of random coincidences?

Great Mystery - I didn't figure it out
Revisado: 10-10-22
Mysterious. Intriguing. Sexy. From the very beginning, I was hooked. The story moved along at a nice pace to keep the listener interested-- in how the detectives attempted to uncover three murders as well as providing insights into their personal lives. I liked how the author described the Black characters' features -- dreadlocks, brown skin, etc. It was nice to hear descriptions of people who look like me. I also liked the characters Joi and her married detective partner/lover, Russell, who are smart, flawed, and compassionate. Good listen.

The hospital complies with their request, but the next day, the baby goes into cardiac distress while Ruth is alone in the nursery. Does she obey orders or does she intervene?

Brilliantly Written. Exceptional performances
Revisado: 08-21-19
An awesome read. A wonderful lesson on racial education. The cultural elements, experiences and emotions of a Black person’s experience in America is spot on! America is a long, long, long way from being post racial. I love that Picoult had the courage to share the lenses of Ruth, and how she navigates White America; Turk, the White supremacist, and Kennedy her White attorney who is well meaning, but suffers with an unconscious bias about Black America.

Beautiful and Intense Love Story
Revisado: 03-23-19
I could see the characters and feel their feelings. As a Black woman the setting and language was wonderfully familiar. I recognized so many descriptions of hair, skin, features, and the food they ate and “grape Kook-Aid” they drank. I was on pins and needles toward the end wondering what Dre, Roy and Celestial we’re going to do. I was engaged to the very end. Narrators were excellent too.
