Historia
"Live each day as if it were your last." Written in Greek by the only Roman emperor who was also a philosopher, without any intention of publication, Marcus Aurelius's Meditations offers a remarkable series of challenging spiritual reflections and exercises developed as the emperor struggled to understand himself and make sense of the universe.

Not the version I would reccomend
Revisado: 08-08-22
I am an immense fan of Marcus Aurelius. This translation is a tad archaic. That impedes the flow and beauty of the words and makes the text seem less approachable than it actually is. Wanda McCaddon does marvelously well. Her voice is excellently melodic, and hearing this read by a woman is a wonderful touch. There is an instance or two of noticeable change in the quality of the audio recording. I do appreciate listening to it on occasion to compare how certain things are read and translated differently. Still on the whole quite excellent

Historia
Written with occasional humor and an easy style, and thoroughly referenced, with many entertaining "gotcha!" moments, Not the Impossible Faith is a must-listen for anyone interested in the origins of Christianity. Richard Carrier, PhD, is an expert in the history of the ancient world and a critic of Christian attempts to distort history in defense of their faith.

Well studied and very approachable
Revisado: 11-06-19
Dr. Carrier is well aware of the differences in perspective and quality of truthfulness between the first few centuries CE and now. He maps out the differences between our post enlightenment understandings of evidence and proof and the effective arguments early Christian evangelists used, and explains why these are no ground for modern belief. He takes the reader through Holding’s argument for Christ and thoroughly refutes and debunks his claims. Very good work, would highly recommend to anyone interested in Christianity and the ancient romans as subjects

Historia
If God does not exist, then what does? Is there good and evil, and should we care? How do we know what's true anyway? And can we make any sense of this universe, or our own lives? Sense and Goodness Without God answers these questions in lavish detail, without complex jargon. Arguing that there is only a physical, natural world without gods or spirits, noted historian and philosopher Richard Carrier presents and defends a complete worldview, one in which we can live a life of love, meaning, and joy.

Historia
One of the most significant books ever written by a head of state, the Meditations are a collection of philosophical thoughts by the Emperor Marcus Aurelius (121 - 180 ce). Covering issues such as duty, forgiveness, brotherhood, strength in adversity and the best way to approach life and death, the Meditations have inspired thinkers, poets and politicians since their first publication more than 500 years ago. Today, the book stands as one of the great guides and companions - a cornerstone of Western thought.
