3 stars
Riley Jones is back in Wildewood after being put in foster care for 18 years and now owns a quirky little bakery called The Witches Brew. As she struggles with the daily life of owning a business with an employee who is uncooperative, a cute dimpled man who has her losing focus, she also has to hide that she’s a witch, using her powers only in private. When strange things start to happen around Wildewood, all pointing toward the aspect of wanting to stop the wedding of the Mayor’s daughter, Riley tries to figure out who is behind all the strange things happening before it’s too late.
I listened to this book on Audible and thought it was a cute story that centers around a small town where nothing bad happens, until it does and you’re left wondering who could possibly want to cause chaos in such a small town. It has a cute black cat that happens to be Riley’s familiar and a hat that likes to be loud at bad times.
The narration for this audiobook was done well. Michelle Shure has a clear voice and I understood every word well. I rated this book 3 stars because I felt there were a few things I found could have been done better. There was a lot of repetition in this book that I found we only needed to be told once. It drew me out of the story and was left saying “you told us that already” more than once. I also felt the romance could have been shaped a little better instead of the cliche knock into you at the grocery store sort of start to the relationship. I’m not a big reader in romance but I want to read a romance where it’s unique and hasn’t been done before.
I did enjoy this book, it was cozy and perfect for the autumn season. It did stop on a cliffhanger and I can't decide if or when I’ll continue with Christmas right around the corner. However, I’m a curious person, so I’ll probably pick up the second one when I’m in the mood for it.
