Historia
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

An Audio Worthy of the Story
Revisado: 05-01-21
I never read it, so I didn't know how visual it was. I'm glad I didn't see any theatrical presentations because next to reading it this feels like best way to stir the imagination and really "see" the story.

Historia
The best-selling author of The Bomber Mafia focuses on "minor geniuses" and idiosyncratic behavior to illuminate the ways all of us organize experience in this "delightful" (Bloomberg News) collection of writings from The New Yorker. What is the difference between choking and panicking? Why are there dozens of varieties of mustard-but only one variety of ketchup? What do football players teach us about how to hire teachers? What does hair dye tell us about the history of the 20th century?

Early Malcolm, Wow
Revisado: 04-03-21
Full disclosure; I am a Malcolm Gladwell fan but will attempt to be as impartial as possible. Compared to his later work this had a more dispersed focus that seems to take the listener on a ride through his stream of consciousness. The story moves between disparate topics at will sometimes jumping back and forth between them. However, his skill as a storyteller weaves everything together beautifully under a single organizing theme that is powerfully insightful.
It's an easy mature listen that both entertains and enlightens. The only reason I didn't give "Story" 5 stars is that I've compared the flow of this narrative with his later work and have experienced the evolution of his writing. If this was the only book I listened to from him it would be 5 Stars for each category.

Mindf*ck goes deep inside Cambridge Analytica’s "American operations", which were driven by Steve Bannon’s vision to remake America and fueled by mysterious billionaire Robert Mercer’s money, as it weaponized and wielded the massive store of data it had harvested on individuals - in excess of 87 million - to disunite the United States and set Americans against each other. Bannon had long sensed that deep within America’s soul lurked an explosive tension. Cambridge Analytica had the data to prove it.

Just Wow
Revisado: 02-26-21
If like me, you're a political beast, infatuated with human behavior and drawn to thrillers then you will like this book. It's been almost a full year since I finished it and the feeling I had afterward is still as strong.
This is a real-life Hollywood blockbuster rife with behavioral science, game theory, and the social engineering that resulted in the last 4 years of the political landscape that ultimately impacted millions of people globally.
The story alone, which was so incredible I often did my own research to verify, was powerful enough to carry the production but it only benefited from a strong performance that honestly left me blown away.
I HIGHLY recommend this listen. It was revealing, human and chilling when you realize it's real.

Historia
Recent research has revealed that the richest person of all time lived in the 14th century in West Africa and went by many names, including Kankan Musa Keita, Emir of Melle, Lord of the Mines of Wangara, Conqueror of Ghanata, and the Lion of Mali II, but today he is usually referred to as Mansa Musa. Adjusting his wealth to modern values, he was worth about an estimated $400 billion as the Sultan of ancient Mali, which controlled the trade routes across the Sahara Desert.

Informative Snapshot
Revisado: 01-27-21
Rich with information not largely available or circulated, this short book sheds new light on the cultural and academic contribution of Africa. I would have liked a longer "listen" giving more time spent on some of the facts and dates that were presented in rapid fire, however this does not take away from the overall presentation. It's a good listen.

Historia
The tipping point is that magic moment when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips, and spreads like wildfire. Just as a single sick person can start an epidemic of the flu, so too can a small but precisely targeted push cause a fashion trend, the popularity of a new product, or a drop in the crime rate. This widely acclaimed bestseller, in which Malcolm Gladwell explores and brilliantly illuminates the tipping point phenomenon, is already changing the way people throughout the world think about selling products and disseminating ideas.

How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

The book is Gladwell's usual thoughtfull examination of society, yielding powerful insights into the complications of how we relate to each other. As a bonus the author has created a production with reenactments and original audio from quoted sources. Excellent!

Historia
Only mutual communication can forge an alliance with the planet's sentient species and prove that mammals are more than tools. Forced to land on a planet they aren't prepared for, human colonists rely on their limited resources to survive. The planet provides a lush but inexplicable landscape—trees offer edible, addictive fruit one day and poison the next, while the ruins of an alien race are found entwined in the roots of a strange plant. Conflicts between generations arise as they struggle to understand one another and grapple with an unknowable alien intellect.

Interesting Concept
Revisado: 10-04-19
I love the main idea of the story which was original and creative however the story construction was disjointed with breaks in the overall flow that worked to undermine any connections the reader/listener formed with the characters.

In South Africa, the future looks promising. Personal robots are making life easier for the working class. The government is harnessing renewable energy to provide infrastructure for the poor. And in the bustling coastal town of Port Elizabeth, the economy is booming thanks to the genetic engineering industry that has found a welcome home there. Yes, the days to come are looking very good for South Africans. That is, if they can survive the present challenges.
