So Good!
Revisado: 04-08-25
I am running out of great true crime books. I’ve listened to quite a few of them. Happened across this and what a bonus, the background and stories answered all the questions that I have about people that actually do this on the side. Really enjoyed it!

Historia
In 1994, an aspiring young cold-case investigator in California’s East Bay, Paul Holes, puts aside trying to solve the Golden State Killer case as he waits for science to catch up. Paul returns to an old file cabinet at the back of the forensic lab to look for another cold case he can work—something with DNA. He finds one. The 1978 murder of a married mother who went for a morning jog in a nearby park. The original investigators believed that a serial killer named Phillip Hughes was responsible; they just couldn’t prove it.

Absolutely loved this, enough detail that you felt that you got a clear picture of how they discover clues and how they link crimes. They really described the disappointments and wins during the cases.

Historia
On a cold January morning, the killer executed Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse in broad daylight. Eight shots fired a block from the Kaufman County Courthouse. Two months later, a massacre. The day before Easter, the couple slept. Bunnies, eggs, a flower centerpiece gracing the table. Death rang their doorbell and filled the air with the rat-a-tat-tat of an assault weapon discharging round after round into their bodies. Eric Williams and his wife, Kim, celebrated the murders with grilled steaks. Williams planned to exact revenge on all those who had wronged him.

See Into a Killers Mind
Revisado: 06-16-24
I was looking into something different, but came across this. The amount of detail that was included was always made it interesting. You really understood why he did these killings after listening to his life and what he experienced- not that you agreed with the killings but understood why he believed it was justified. One thing that flabbergasted me was that why the district attorney did not lock his residence door. I hope I never have to serve on a jury like this. I 100% agreed with their decision.

Historia
Barbara Butcher was early in her recovery from alcoholism when she found an unexpected lifeline: a job at the Medical Examiner’s Office in New York City. The second woman ever hired for the role of Death Investigator in Manhattan, she was the first to last more than three months. The work was gritty, demanding, morbid, and sometimes dangerous—and she loved it. In What the Dead Know, she writes with the kind of New York attitude and bravado you might expect from decades in the field, investigating more than 5,500 death scenes, 680 of which were homicides.

I have been looking for months for a great story and man did this deliver. Her life all the great achievements, but also the lows you know people go thru but don’t share on FB. She ended the book beautifully. It was such a wonderful read!

I am bewildered
Revisado: 03-30-23
After listening to this book and also Empire of Pain, I am quite bewildered of the blatant disregard of what I thought were solid guidelines of the health care industry. As a retired pharmacist and being held to the letter of the law, as I tried to do every minute that I worked, this was eye-opening information.
I never thought that medicine would bend to the highest bidder, but it really seems so, and I feel naïve to of had my previous opinions. Kudos to the workers that had the guts to talk to this author, and also to him for pushing forward and writing the story. I did not agree with some of the comments that said they could not stand the narrator. I thought he did a great job and enjoyed listening to every minute of it.

What a fantastic story!
Revisado: 12-09-21
I’m a 62-year-old grandmother who enjoyed every word of this especially because it was read by Tom S. Because he performed it, each word was given credibility. I am so glad that he was able to find a woman in this world that helped him out of this horrible thing that was affecting his life. Godspeed to him and his wife to help more people coming out of the military. God bless him. I hope we have 10 million more men in our future as a country that are willing to fight for us the way he did.

I can only assume that this is through an automatic reader because of the tone of the narration. I’m sorry it’s just too irritating to listen to.

Very Interesting!
Revisado: 06-12-20
Got my housework done for several days and learned a lot. This is my second book with this particular narrator, and I don’t believe I was crazy about him but once you finish the first book and you go to the second book it’s almost like you expect him to be talking to you about this subject.
All in all really enjoyed this one.

This book was absolutely perfect. There was enough detail for you to understand what an absolute psychopath this guy was but it really centered on the detection and the work with the officers did in order to catch him. It was exactly what I was looking for.
