Historia
Flavia de Luce has taken on the mentorship of her odious moon-faced cousin Undine, who has come to live at Buckshaw following the death of her mother. Undine’s main talent, aside from cultivating disgusting habits, seems to be raising Flavia’s hackles, although in her best moments she shows potential for trespassing, trickery, and other assorted mayhem. When Major Greyleigh, a local recluse and former hangman, is found dead after a breakfast of poisonous mushrooms, suspicion falls on the de Luce family’s longtime cook, Mrs. Mullet.

Incredible disappointment
Revisado: 03-08-25
I loved these books and listened to the entire series again before tackling this latest. Bluntly, Bradley should have left well enough alone. He's clearly lost the plot. Initially intriguing, the story becomes a weak and uninspired slog. The deus ex machina of the major plot twist was so contrived and the justification for it's impact on the main plot and for upending the series' backstory so ridiculous, I stopped listening.

What a disappointment
Revisado: 11-12-20
A mediocre story that devolves into a sloppy, confusing mess that jumps around in time and plot because the author has to cheat rather than provide readers with the clues of a well-plotted mystery.

Historia
In his first-ever Doctor Who novel, Tom Baker’s incredible imagination is given free rein. A story so epic it was originally intended for the big screen, Scratchman is a gripping, white-knuckle thriller almost 40 years in the making. The Doctor, Harry and Sarah Jane Smith arrive at a remote Scottish island when their holiday is cut short by the appearance of strange creatures - hideous scarecrows who are preying on the local population. The islanders are living in fear, and the Doctor vows to save them all.

Long live the Fourth Doctor
Revisado: 09-25-19
It's Tom Baker in all his singular madness and joie de vivre to remind us why he will always be The Doctor. Started with Ian Marter in the 1970s, Scratchman is finally delivered in novelized form and is every bit as good as Tom Baker ever promised.

A study in blue
Revisado: 09-24-19
I'm guessing Mr. Johnson has a 16-book deal for this series, and this book doesn't give me a lot of hope things will end well. It's not one of the top Longmire books, but at least he is back in Absaroka. This is a melancholy and moody turn that hasn't been seen since the initial books as Walt struggles to recover from his showdown with Bodarte and the knowledge that his race has rounded the last turn.

Definitely not his best.
Revisado: 09-23-18
Considering the long buildup to the showdown with Bodarte, one that stretched through 5 prior books, this was a disappointment. This is by far his weakest story and the absence of Vic and Henry made it plod.

Readers deserve better from Phifer
Revisado: 05-06-18
I really like this author's first two books except for one thing, which is why I'm only giving this 3 stars. In both books, at the moment the villain is revealed, the "brilliant" detective's IQ drops to - 6 and she bungles on oblivious, allowing the villain to overpower her and put her in mortal danger for the climax. It's so ham-fisted, I've yelled, "Oh, come on!" both times. Frankly, it's infuriating coming from an author who does an otherwise solid job on her stories.

Historia
A white-knuckle crime debut introducing DI Meg Dalton, perfect for fans of Broadchurch and Happy Valley. A lawyer is found dead in a Peak District cave, his face ribboned with scratches. Amidst rumours of a local curse, DI Meg Dalton is convinced this is cold-blooded murder. There's just one catch - chiselled into the cave wall above the body is an image of the grim reaper and the dead man's initials, and it's been there for over a century.

Good story idea, mediocre execution
Revisado: 03-19-18
This story has several interesting elements and a lot of potential, but the author's inability to conceal her personal animus to anything religious and her superficial, overly simplified presentation of the sanctity of life vs. euthanasia argument made the plot tiresome and the villain tediously obvious.
