Historia
Out-of-work Latin teacher and borderline alcoholic Austin DeSantis is determined to spend his final days in the arms of a prostitute—that is if the aliens don’t exterminate humanity first. But when the aliens land at the Vatican, begin speaking Latin, and reveal themselves to be Catholic, the world turns upside down. Pressed into service as a translator and thrust into the center of humanity's first contact with a cryptic alien race, Austin must uncover their true intentions before religious turmoil rips the planet apart.

Sci Fi meets Apologetics
Revisado: 11-21-24
While this is billed as a loose adaptation of Augustine’s confessions it is much more than that. It is a riveting sci fi thriller, with some interesting speculation on alien life forms and
excellent apologetics mixed in.
For someone curious about Catholicism this would be a great first choice. The conversations between Austin and Fr Ambrose go over some classic apologetics and the overall emphasis on the centrality of love will appeal to those left cold by appeals to morality (goodness) or reason (truth). I’ve recommended it to everyone I know who is interested in Catholicism and or Sci Fi.

Historia
Nine out of ten Japanese claim some affiliation with Shinto, but in the West the religion remains the least studied of the major Asian spiritual traditions. It is so interlaced with Japanese cultural values and practices that scholarly studies usually focus on only one of its dimensions: Shinto as a "nature religion", an "imperial state religion", a "primal religion", or a "folk amalgam of practices and beliefs". Thomas Kasulis' fresh approach to Shinto explains with clarity and economy how these different aspects interrelate.

Historia
Last summer, The New Yorker published chef Anthony Bourdain's shocking, "Don't Eat Before Reading This." Now, the author uses the same "take-no-prisoners" attitude in his deliciously funny and shockingly delectable audiobook, sure to delight gourmands and philistines alike.

Great story; odd production
Revisado: 10-27-22
Excellent sci-fi that doesn’t feel dated after almost 60 years but the production is odd with some chapters read by a narrator and others with a full cast.
