I came yo this story with absolutely no knowledge about Bulgaria and it's history through and after WW2. The changes in circumstances, the importance of friendships and connections, caught me and held me.

One of the best yet!

I think I say that with each new title in this series. for some reason, this story kept me up at night, hearing just one more chapter....i realized quite unexpectedly that we have the advantage of looking back on a world event and seeing from beginning to end. this author did an amazing job of telling the unfolding story...with a cadence of a trickle of info, incomplete info, chaos and so many unique perspectives. the evil of greed and it's effect on ordinary people was done so well. thank you ms. winspear for another wonderful adventure with Maisie
