The Summer Kitchen is both a delightful establishment and a great, small-town vibe, book.
Greg Boudreaux’s performance is dynamic as ever, lending each character their own authentic voice.

In this charming romantic story, Casey is a chef in-the-making, trying to recreate his departed father’s world-class recipes. In an effort to please his uncle, he enrolls in the Summer Kitchen culinary school in Vermont. There he meets the innkeeper, Dev, and his family and friends who live and work in the area.

Assumptions lead to misunderstandings, and the protagonists’ efforts to avoid being hurt lead to them, of course, being hurt. Luckily, this is a low-angst / mid-level steam novel and the two eventually do resolve their tension.

The town has a quaint village feel, yet the residents are intelligent, world-traveled, and great at what they do. The error of dismissing their skills based on where they live comes back to haunt the antagonists, who make appearances throughout the book and get their comeuppance…mostly.

Russell’s obvious respect, if not love, for the kitchen and challenging recipes is evident in the time she gives describing the complex ingredients and steps, down to the cookware and color. The feeling of REALness of the town is further solidified with her descriptions of everyday activities, such as reviewing spreadsheets and administering vaccines to a pet.

The cousins, friends and visitors to the town all have unique personalities and hints of interesting backgrounds and will hopefully have their own HEAs in the not-too-distant future.

Miles is a sweetheart and Aiden is sexy and kind. They absolutely make sense together.

However, if you're looking for steam or angst, this isn't your book. While the chemistry btwn MCs is high, the heat level is a 1, so fans of other Blaine/Frank novels should not be expecting the same level of heat as other books by the duo.

The meet-cute is well executed, but a big chunk of the story revolves around ridiculous misunderstandings and juvenile choices, which simply don't seem inline with the rest of the story.

Overall this is a light read with a Santa miracle Christmas, suitable for most audiences.

E. J. Russell delivers a fun, amusing, endearing couple with an ensemble of side characters - both old favorites and new acquaintances. Greg Boudreaux brings the world to life, with accents, heartstrings and humor. The story is a lighthearted adventure to stop a villain and save a child, with love along the way. Enjoyed every minute of it.

Road Rules is the first entry into the Rules of the Game series, following fictional NHL team, the Evanston River Otters. Zane Murphy and Ryan Hartinger have been best friends for years, both on and off the ice. When a fellow player comes out, the two friends start questioning their relationship, and whether there could be more than just friendship between them.

This sweet, bi-awakening, BF2L story will make you fall in love with these two athletes. Considerations for what being together might mean for their careers and the rest of their lives adds a layer of believability. Interactions with the rest of the team sets up the next story in the series nicely.

James Edward Jones’ delivery is slow in the beginning, but quickly picks up and embodies our two MCs well. His portrayal of Zane and Ryan, as well as teammates and family members creates a world that the listener can immerse themselves in.

For those who previously read Road Rules, this is an expanded version that adds much depth and layers to Zane and Ryan’s characters, interactions, and situations, and is well worth picking up the audio.

A great first entry into this new series, Maddox and Hiro are hilarious and sweet. Winters' writing and Boudreaux's narration deliver the goods again.

As other reviewers have indicated, this story is a great entry into the V&V universe. Unfortunately, the two, otherwise brilliant, narrators were not able to execute the delivery of Joss and Kai. The p.o.v. was hard to follow - who's speaking now? - and it detracted from a truly compelling story. I highly recommend the book, but maybe read this particular one instead.

The second entry into the Rebel Sky Ranch series, Sparrow is the story of Foreman Sebastián “Sparrow" Gorrión and Rodeo King Luke McCall.

This grumpy/sunshine isn't really an enemies to lovers, because only one MC has a beef with the other (but not vice versa). But the dynamic is similar and their eventual get-together is just as rewarding as if they had been enemies.

Luke is funny, witty, charming, and a people-pleaser. Sparrow is confident, diligent, commanding and steady. They fit like perfect jigsaw pieces.

Declan Winters' narration works well for these two characters, bringing to life two very different personalities.

Fan favorites from other Fox novels make an appearance and set the stage for future books.

A great addition to the Rebel Sky universe.

Page Against the Machine is a 1st person, dual POV novella about:

• A bookkeeper and a bike mechanic
• Opposites attract
• Things aren't always as they seem
• Meeting your perfect match - in unexpected places
• Not so much "Grumpy-Sunshine" as "Grumpy-Grumpy."

It's also about being willing to show one's softer side, being vulnerable and allowing yourself to be cared for.

Grey creates intriguing side plots for secondary characters, seamlessly setting up storylines for future novels. Previous characters also make cameo appearances, solidifying the small town feel.

At just under 3 hours, the novella is an ideal length to allow friction and chemistry, but is not too angsty.

Michael Dean's narration is terrific, as usual.

Fans of the Mission City universe will enjoy this entry, as will newcomers to the town.

Sexted by Santa is a perfect holiday listen, complete with a Grumpy/Sunshine, age gap (no Littles), whimsical aunt and an adorable little girl. Though it is part of the Thrust Into Love series, it can absolutely be read as a standalone.

TW for a child with health issues, though it is covered delicately and considerately in the story.

Nick J. Russo's delivery is touching, poignant and hilarious in equal measure.

This low angst, learning-to-trust, found family story has plenty of steam, plenty of funny and an HEA.

Fans of E J. Russell's work will enjoy this entry into the Enchanted Occasions world.
It is not necessary to have read Nudging Fate prior to Devouring Flame.

While mostly low-angst, there are a few moments of deeper significance. An example is the moment the ifrit makes a crucial decision, which is poignant, meaningful and weighty.

Russell writes fun and quirky side characters with secrets and ulterior motives, creating potential for MCs in future books.

Kirt Graves' narration is spot on, as usual. His portrayal of Smith's and Hashim's relationship brings the characters to life.

Overall enjoyable listen with a satisfying conclusion and interest in the next entry in the series.
