Hard to get through

As a lifelong King devotee, I became accustomed to his books grabbing the reader right out of the gate. Unfortunately, this is the only King book I struggled to get through. The premise is good but not enough to keep me interested but hey, except for this one, Mr King plays his A game all the time!

Each story grabs you and keeps you in its orbit. I had seen the movies ‘Stand By Me’ and ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ and, knowing how they end, was hoping I wouldn’t loose interest. I certainly did not. Stephen King is a master storyteller. The only issue I had with this recording was that there was no space between the ending of one story and the beginning of the next. At the end of his stories, you need a minute to recover from the impact of the ending before launching into the next story.

Not sure I can finish this book. The story has potential but the dialogue is cumbersome. I know this is a series so I assume there is merit if you wait it out but if all the books are narrated by the same person, count me out. She sounds like a machine, clipped and emotionless. I could understand her clearly but actually had to check to see if I had accidentally increased the speed. Helped a little to slow down the speed but, for the first time ever, I really can’t handle the narration in this book.
