Historia
"Lady Anna" (1874) is a novel by Anthony Trollope. It describes Lady Anna's attempts to resolve the conflict between her duty to her social class and her duty to the man she loves. The story takes place at about the time of the First Reform Act of 1832. Lady Anna is the daughter of the late Earl Lovel. Her mother married him out of ambition, despite his evil reputation. Soon after their marriage, he told her that he had a living wife, which made their union invalid and their unborn daughter illegitimate.

A good entry point to meet Trollope
Revisado: 10-08-23
I am working my way through all Trollope's books. While this specific book may not be as widely recognized, I find it to be a compelling story and a great introduction to the author's body of work. Although narrators like Timothy West and Nigel Patterson are known for their exceptional performances of Trollope's works, this particular narration still holds its own. If, like me, you've experienced all the books narrated by the aforementioned narrators, you'll find that this is indeed a decent narration of a lesser-known book.

Historia
One day, I’m married, living in Seattle, and magic isn’t real. The next, I’m divorced and living in the guest room of my ex’s hotter-than-sin cousin’s place in Savannah and talking to an animated skeleton named Robert. I have to admit, Robert isn’t my worst date. At 41, I didn’t think I’d be starting over. But I’ll be damned if my ex thinks I’m down and out because he pulled a fast one on me. When a job comes my way that offers me a chance to use my childhood training in the shadow world, I take it.

Entertaining read
Revisado: 08-27-23
I discovered this series after completing the author's other series, Rylee Adamson. I truly appreciate Shannon Mayer's writing and the imaginative worlds she crafts. I believe this series holds great potential, and I found the main character to be vibrant and witty. The narrator also delivered an excellent performance.

Historia
Sloan McPherson and the Underwater Investigation Unit have discovered a van at the bottom of a murky Florida pond. Sealed inside the watery tomb are the bodies of four teenagers who disappeared 30 years ago after leaving a rock concert. To authorities, it looks like a tragic accident. To Sloan, it looks like murder. Every piece of evidence is starting to connect to a string of cold case vanishings throughout Florida. Clue by clue, Sloan navigates the warm, dark waters where natural predators feed, knowing that the most dangerous one is still above the surface - nesting and dormant.

London, 1944. While the Luftwaffe makes its final assault on the already battered British capital, Londoners rush through the streets, seeking underground shelter in the midst of the city's blackout. When the panic subsides, other things begin to surface along with London's war-worn citizens. A severed arm is discovered by a group of children playing at an East End bomb site, and when Scotland Yard's Detective Sergeant Frederick Troy arrives at the scene, it becomes apparent that the dismembered body is not the work of a V-1 rocket.

Historia
Samuel Richardson's epistolary novel Pamela, or Virtue Rewarded, published in 1740, tells the story of a young woman's resistance to the desires of her predatory master. Pamela is determined to protect her virginity and remain a paragon of virtue; however, the heroine's moral principles only strengthen the resolve of Mr. B and Pamela soon finds herself imprisoned against her will. The young woman's affection for her captor gradually grows and she becomes aware of a love that combines eros and agape.

Really good narration
Revisado: 12-14-20
I liked the first part of the book, but struggle with the events of the second half. I decided to push through and finished it. I think the issues discussed in the book (work place harassment, consent, individual agency, gaslighting) are as relevant today as then. Thought as a 21st century reader, I wish the book had had a different ending . My next book from the 18th century will be Shamela, which as I understand is a satire to Richardson’s Pamela. The narrators do an excellent job, they enriched the reading experience.
