Richly rewarding
Revisado: 02-11-25
These are fantastic stories. Funny but thought-provoking and even moving at times. The reading brings these off-beat tales to life as only a great comedian like Mulaney can do.

Historia
Letting Go describes a simple and effective means by which to let go of the obstacles to enlightenment and become free of negativity. During the many decades of the author's clinical psychiatric practice, the primary aim was to seek the most effective ways to relieve human suffering in all of its many forms. The inner mechanism of surrender was found to be of great practical benefit and is described in this book.

I want my credit back.

This book starts off as a sensible-sounding discussion of difficult emotions. And then suddenly it veers off into energy vibrations, auras, and psychics. What a waste.

Wonderful reading of an all time classic
Revisado: 03-08-23
This is one of my all time favorite novels and Tim Curry does not disappoint. His reading of dialogue is a bit stiff at times and some of his pronunciations strike me as overdone (the way he says "epoch" is annoying). But on the whole, it's a thoroughly enchanting performance.

Wonderful text. Dubious reading.
Revisado: 08-13-20
I love Marcus Aurelius, but this reading leaves something to be desired. The reader's voice is deep and pleasant but it's not clear he always fully understands the sentences he's reading, so the whole thing feels choppy and hard to follow. It's great if you just want the words to flow over you and lull you to sleep -- and I have gratefully used it for that purpose. But if you actually want to contemplate the ideas here, I would try another version.

Historia
The much-loved Guardian columnist asks what it takes to make a husband, and looks to his own married life to provide the answer. Anything resembling advice should be taken at listener's own risk. You'll never get divorced if you never get married. Not even your granny minds if you live in sin anymore. And if you're single you can choose curtains without somebody else butting in. So why bother with marriage? It can't just be an easy way round having to buy your own deodorant.

Historia
We all obsess about worrying less, but worrying can actually be good for you. Similarly, we strive to be proactive and fast - but aren't there hidden benefits to procrastinating? The last thing a parent is meant to do is neglect their offspring, but children do amazing things when you just leave them alone. And at work we spend hours frantically brainstorming, but isn't there a benefit to just lazily staring out of the window? Everything Bad Is Good for You is a new series of short audiobooks dedicated to the much-maligned personality traits that we should actually be promoting.

This is a wonderful little audiobook. Funny, wise, and bracingly iconoclastic. Can't wait to listen to it again and then again at least once a year.

Historia
The Antidote is a series of journeys among people who share a single, surprising way of thinking about life. What they have in common is a hunch about human psychology: that it’s our constant effort to eliminate the negative that causes us to feel so anxious, insecure, and unhappy. And that there is an alternative "negative path" to happiness and success that involves embracing the things we spend our lives trying to avoid.
