Historia
It's not safe for anyone alone in the woods. There are predators that come out at night: critters and coyotes, snakes and wolves. But the woman in the red jacket has no choice. Not since the Crisis came, decimated the population, and sent those who survived fleeing into quarantine camps that serve as breeding grounds for death, destruction, and disease. She is just a woman trying not to get killed in a world that doesn't look anything like the one she grew up in, the one that was perfectly sane and normal and boring until three months ago.

Completely new angle for a story!!
Revisado: 05-13-24
I must congratulate the author on a wholly original narrative. The MC would be considered eccentric by most standards, but her peculiarities left her uniquely suited for surviving the newly disease ridden world. I also rather like the irony that she largely took her favorite film and literature genre and turned it into a "Surviving the apocalypse 101" course even before things really hit the fan.
Thanks for the unique story!

Not her typical theme
Revisado: 01-28-21
There are genuine aspects of Kristen Painter books that I have typically enjoyed in the past, and it seems like she deliberately withheld them in this book. In most of her other books, she tends to bring some chaos and amusement into a tapestry that seems to make the book end in a fraction of the time indicated on the play length. This book seemed too long, and I found myself skipping over dry scenes simply because I didn't feel like anything was happening.
The truth is, I think the IDEA for the story was great! The implementation was a bit "meh!". There is too much of Kristen Painter missing from this story.

Historia
Her source of power is her greatest weakness. Tough, ruthless, and loyal, Jared Johnson has always been a force to be reckoned with: first as an outlaw and now as a vampire. Caught in a war between immortals, he doesn't have time to waste. But when a female vampire is attacked, he can't just walk away. He expects a quick good-bye, but what he gets is a vulnerable woman who intrigues and seduces while giving away nothing of the secrets holding her hostage.

Excellent plot...and the narrative is almost great
Revisado: 08-05-19
great story... but had to skip chunks between 5 minutes and 40 minutes long due to lack of plot progression. My advice is... jump to the next chapter in the instant the sex begins or you have had enough of it... the story is worthwhile... but there is simply too much fluff

i like this better than the main series
Revisado: 06-12-19
I found it easier to fall into this story than the main Elder Races books because it seems a closer fit to real life. I am not left with the persistent feeling that the universe is in backfill just to comprehend the characters, which seems to animate the characters more clearly. Dont get me wrong, I love all Thea's books... but this story feels more colorful to me.
summary for potential readers: Molly is in a deadend marriage for nearly half of her life when everything seems to explode into chaos. Her newly awakening power is phenominal, and nearly as catastrophic a change as her choice to end her marriage, setting her on a path that may lead to a life she never thought to want. of course, there are bad guys and battles, but i wont spoil it for you!

Thalia Lyndhoven has a problem. Well, she has several. In fact, there are too many to count. Some are doozies, and some are just minor, but, in the grand scheme of things, she looks to have it all. Three beautiful, supportive, very unique mates. Men who'd kill for her. Who'd embrace the darkness for her. As well as more power at her fingertips than most could even imagine. While Thalia has always wanted a simple life, her passage to another realm looks set to prove that will never be.

we buy the books because we like a baddass... especially when mundane is too mundqne. why is it that so many authors fell it necessary to suddenly turn their creations into weaklings for a book or two? everything that advancea the plot in this book could really exist in 4 paragraphs

i really enjoyed this story
Revisado: 05-01-19
Our favorite sorceress has really come into her own, and demonstrates the power to survive war and trickery with little rest and forces arrayed against her. i love strong female lead characters, and this series has been cultivating one for 16 books.
admittedly however, if the next book centers around solving the last problem identified in this book... well ill have to skip it.... which is really annoying because these books are already to far apart. i just find THAT particular plotline tired... and as common as white undies. hopefully it is fixed quickly, and most of the next boom actually progresses into some of the foreshadowing from previous books... such as training witb Void, dealing with White Council, starting the school, hunting other Necros, etc.
oh... and folks say CN is sick... so if that is still true... get better fast! Not only because being sick is no good :(, but you have to hurry up and make next book for me :D

Kim could tell at a glance Angel wasn't the average attractive yet poorly disguised extraterrestrial scout sent to assess Earth's defenses before the inevitable alien invasion. Angel's memory loss cover story? Lame. Robbing a passing ruffian of his shirt to cover her naked body? NOT a good way to avoid attracting attention! As a science fiction geek, Kim felt herself uniquely qualified to watch Angel and thwart her dark mission...once the alien got around to it.

Revisado: 03-29-19
Unlike some... I can see how a geeky introvert may strugle when learning uncomfortable truths about herself... And may find motivation to gain this knowledge when presented by a sexy alien of the unexpected gender...in this scenario. I like the story ... It is cute. And it seems to attqtch well to modern.... My friends only talk to me over the net... Culture.

Eighteen-year-old Myla Lewis is a girl who loves two things: kicking ass and kicking ass. She's not your everyday quasi-demon, half-demon, and half-human, girl. For the past five years, Myla has lived for the days she gets to fight in Purgatory's arena. When souls want a trial by combat for their right to enter heaven or hell, they go up against her, and she has not lost a battle yet.
