Historia
When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic, rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Yet despite Ludlow's tranquility, there's an undercurrent of danger that lingers...like the graveyard in the woods near the Creeds' home, where generations of children have buried their beloved pets.

Great story, amazing performance
Revisado: 04-16-25
Pet Sematary is a classic. It's Stephen King at his best. For me, this book completely lived up to the height. There are subtle differences from the film that answered some questions & brought further depth to the lore of it all.
I highly recommend this books to fans of mystery/horror. If you're a King fan and have seen the movie, you definitely need to listen to this book. Michael C. Hall was at his best for this performance.

Coming from the HBO series, this is the first book where I'm really seeing the depth of the world that George RR Martin created. Beautiful performance. It had me on the edge of my seat at times. They say that the books are always better than the movies/shows, this book helps to seal that as true.

Historia
A mesmerizing tale of unjust imprisonment and offbeat escape, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption is one of Stephen King’s most beloved and iconic stories, and it helped make Castle Rock a place readers and listeners would return to over and over again. Suspenseful, mysterious, and heart-wrenching, this iconic King novella, populated by a cast of unforgettable characters, is about a fiercely compelling convict named Andy Dufresne who is seeking his ultimate revenge.

Great novella
Revisado: 01-19-25
I don't need to tell anyone how good this story is. There are some differences between the novella and the movie, but the general story flows the same way.
I'm glad that I finally got around to listening to it. Great performance. I highly recommend it.

Historia
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Drop Dead
Revisado: 01-13-25
I had heard this book described as a romance and cozy mystery. I feel like that's a fair description.
After posting an obituary without confirming the facts, two reporters from rivaling news outlets (John Cho & Phillipa Soo) are forced to team up and try to piece together a story. Time is of the essence, the quarters are close, & they begin to realize that things aren't always as they seem.
If you're into rom-coms with a splash of mystery, I would recommend "Drop Dead."

A great debut novel
Revisado: 12-30-24
"That's Not My Name" is the great debut novel by Megan Lally. It's a mystery/suspense & it had some good twists and turns along the way. It had solid character development as I felt like I really had a chance to get to know who the characters were.
The book mainly focuses on two characters and the chapters alternate from their perspectives. I've encountered books that are similarly structured, and I have to say that I like it.
If you like mysteries with a true crime feel, then I would recommend "That's Not My Name." I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A truly amazing life
Revisado: 12-07-24
My wife got me into Gilmore Girls years ago. I originally watched it for her, but I would be lying if I said it didn't grow on me. It's a fun show & Emily Gilmore is hilariously uptight & set in her ways. She's a fun character to watch.
"The Third Gilmore Girl" is the Memoir by Kelly Bishop, the actress who played Emily Gilmore. Kelly is an amazing woman with deep roots in the Broadway scene. She lived a whole life before I saw her on the screen & I really enjoyed learning about her ups, downs, & determination to always push her forward. She has lived a truly amazing life & I'm thankful that she decided to share it with us.
If you're a fan of the series, have a love for Broadway, or just want a feel good story about strong woman that knew what she wanted & pushed herself until it was hers, I highly recommend this book.

Wow, what a wild ride...
Revisado: 10-09-24
"Fantasticland" is virtually a modern-day "Lord of the Flies." It's told through a series of interviews and, though it's a complete work of fiction, it has an uncanny feel of realism. It has left me with an uneasy feeling about life, humanity, & the roles that environment plays on our actions.
I am not familiar with Mike Bockoven's other books, but I will most definitely be looking into those in the future.
This book is both brutal and intense in all the right ways. I highly recommend it.

Another great book by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Revisado: 09-10-24
"The Hawthorne Legacy" is the second installment in "the Inheritance Games" series. I happened across the first book by accident & now I feel like I'm hooked. This series is far from the typical books I would read, but for some reason, they just work.
"The Inheritance Games" series at its core is a young adult mystery series. It has great character development, some romance, & elements of high school drama.
Every time you think that you have an answer, two more questions take its place.
If any of this sounds appealing, then I would recommend giving the series a try.

Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

This book had me from the very start
Revisado: 08-12-24
"The 22 Murders of Madison May" grabbed me from the very beginning & didn't let go.
Max Barry's character development was great. I found myself genuinely caring for the different characters, including many versions of Maddie.
It's tough for me to think how I would categorize this book. It's kind of a mixed bag. There's interdimensional travel, mystery, murders, love, and finding one's place in the world.
I just happened across this audiobook, but I'm glad that I did. It's a great read. I highly recommend it.
