I enjoyed this book. The first few minutes, I wasn’t sure how the story would unfold and was pleasantly surprised that the challenges did not exist in the initial setting. I love the slow build of their relationship based on more than desire and the growth of the characters.

Fun, but truly a fantastical story

The overall plot had promise but the heroine seemed too caught up in her ‘circumstance’ to me. Her writer’s block could have been caused by simply a sheltered life. Also, the narrators, while they did a good job, were perhaps not the best choice for these characters. I could imagine them doing other books I’ve read and would enjoyed them better elsewhere. I always enjoy reading Penelope Bloom. I suspect I should have read this one instead of listening.

Narration seemed slower than normal. I was happiest with the 1.2X speed, otherwise the words seemed oddly drawn out.

Chance encounter and tangle of emotions

Good story about what motivates decisions and behaviors. I didn’t see the twist at the end coming. I listed at 1.2 because the story seemed to flow more naturally at that speed.

He’s Gen X - Keep reading/listening - great mysteries and great character development

Enjoyable. The mysteries are well written and I enjoyed not knowing the fullness of the who and why until I heard it from the narrator. I have worked with former law enforcement in my age group who would have been Thomas, except they retired after full careers. Stay with the series and watch Thomas grow. He doesn’t mince his words, but he isn’t misogynistic. He speaks in the voice of the time that the book is written. If you can only be happy with a Millennial, Gen Y or Gen Z voice, this may not be the series for you.

Good plot, intrigue was short-changed

The premise was good. The story was straight-forward without a lot of B-story distractions. The threat seemed sudden and without a lot of backstory. The same was true for the relationship. I wield have like to seen them k ow more about each other before they fell in limo to superficial love. I enjoyed the spiritual component, even though it seemed to thrown in to
wrap the story up instead of being a natural part of the sisters characters. Fleshed out, the story would have been a 4 or 5 star review.

Shoe character development takes time

I must admit, I was worried by the comments left by others. I’m glad I paid them no mind. The characters had a lot to work through. The things they had to work through were difficult and the book evolved in a way that the time felt natural, not rushed. The characters had lots of chemistry, but there wasn’t the rush to satisfaction that you see in other books. This may be my favorite Penny Reid book. That’s saying a lot after the Knitting in the City series, and the series with the Winstons in Tennessee. Loved the continued science.

I enjoy JA Huss as an author and I really enjoy all of the narrators; however, this one was not for me. Usually, I'll stick things out just to see how a book ends. Unfortunately, I didn't like any of these people enough to care how their sexy/twisty/murder/trapped story was going to end. I felt like I was inadvertently trapped looking into someone's windows seeing things I was never meant to see. Others will enjoy, it but I couldn't connect on this one.

Wow! Best of the four books.

I didn’t think the story would tip the emotional angst of Echo’s story but I was wrong. There was so much to unpack by these 2 I. Order to have more than a physical relationship. I was happy that the author don’t use the ‘bad baby mama’ trope. The true story behind the baby was heartbreaking. As for the male narrator, I’ve heard him from many British mysteries and so while I didn’t think it was a great match, he is a great reader - minus his female voices which are always quite campy. Thankful for the HEA.
