Historia
On a flight from London to Boston, Ted Severson meets the stunning and mysterious Lily Kintner. Sharing one too many martinis, the strangers begin to play a game of truth, revealing intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his marriage that’s going stale and his wife, Miranda, who he’s sure is cheating on him. Ted and his wife were a mismatch from the start - he the rich businessman, she the artistic free spirit - a contrast that once inflamed their passion but has now become a cliché. But their game turns a little darker when Ted jokes that he could kill Miranda....

Historia
Martha Ratliff conceded long ago that she’d likely spend her life alone. She was fine with it, happy with her solo existence, stimulated by her work as a librarian in Maine. But then she met Alan, a charming and sweet-natured salesman whose job took him on the road for half the year. When he asked her to marry him, she said yes, even though he still felt a little bit like a stranger.

Very unusual but very good
Revisado: 11-13-24
I drive a lot and have a hard time with books that really keep my attention while on the toad. This book is literally one that I can’t wait to get back to. First time with this author but I’ve adding him to my favorites and have loaded up another of his for my next listen.

Jack Reacher wakes up alone, in the dark, handcuffed to a makeshift bed. His right arm has suffered some major damage. His few possessions are gone. He has no memory of getting there. The last thing Reacher can recall is the car he hitched a ride in getting run off the road. The driver was killed. His captors assume Reacher was the driver’s accomplice and patch up his wounds as they plan to make him talk. A plan that will backfire spectacularly . . .

Still a “Reacher”
Revisado: 11-04-24
For me at least, a bit hard to follow all the twists, turns, and reverse actions of many of the characters and their fit in the story.
I listen mostly while I drive and this book had me hitting a bookmark more often than I can remember during any other Reacher to go back when I stopped to re-listen to clarify.
No worries though. The last third of the book pulls all the threads together and the finish is vintage Reacher.

Wrong choice
Revisado: 09-13-24
I’m a big fan of the Author but this story wasn’t for me mainly due to the main character and her personality. Sheesh! I listen while I drive and found myself actually calling her names like “Stupid!” I almost quit about two thirds of the way through but didn’t want to stop driving and find another book.
I hoped the last third would have some clever twists and turns so I stuck it out. It did. I still wish I had read more of the reviews before this purchase.

About 60% ok
Revisado: 08-24-24
An unexpected twist (for me at least) occurs about 60% into the story. Up till then I enjoyed the story, but still finished it. Read if you will and see if you agree.

In this compulsively listenable tale of secrets, lies, and deception, Gilly Macmillan explores the darkest impulses and desires of the human heart. Diabolically clever, The Nanny reminds us that sometimes the truth hurts so much you’d rather hear the lie.

Gave up on Silva for a while like many due his heavy infusion of US Politics. I read good fiction to go to World away from that among other things. I decided to give him another try. Looks like he got the message.

Good story but too wordy
Revisado: 05-03-24
Narrator is excellent, story is good. Interesting heroine disappears in the last few chapters. Book could easily be 2 hours less by eliminating the maddening descriptive redundancy. I found myself yelling at the book while driving to “just tell the story!”

Thanks Thomas for another great story and listen. Can’t wait for the next one!
