Historia
Antonia Adams is the product of a loveless marriage between a beautiful young model and an aristocrat. As a child, she is abandoned in the abyss that yawns between them, blamed by her mother, ignored by her father, and neglected by both. Unprotected and unloved, she learns that the only way to feel safe is to hide from the dangers around her, drawing as little attention as possible to herself, to be "invisible".

Historia
For a young American boy in the 1950s, Fontainebleau was a sight both strange and majestic, home to a continual series of adventures: a different language to learn, weekend visits to nearby Paris, family road trips to Spain and Italy. Then there was the château itself: a sprawling palace once the residence of kings, its grounds the perfect place to play hide-and-seek. The curiosities of the small town left such an impression on him that 30 years later, Thad Carhart returned to France with his wife to raise their two children.

A Momentous Moment in Time
Revisado: 08-30-23
For those interested in the era of World War II,
this slice of history is fascinating. It reveals not only the diplomatic machinations at the famed and flawed Yalta conference but the very human side of the participants. The loving daughters of Harriman, Roosevelt and Churchill have their amazing contributions highlighted.
The book is well written and researched. Some times the detail seems excessive. It is helpful to have been familiarity with the European part of World War II.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Charming, heartfelt and engaging
Revisado: 09-07-22
There are countless books set during WWII. This is a novel that focuses on the lives and experiences of everyday people. Their ability to work together and look out for one another is admirable. Yes, you will guess the outcome of each of the romances described. But the underlying message is of caring for our fellow citizens. In our present day of division and turmoil, it is a good reminder of “love thy neighbor.”

Historia
August 1939: London is dismal under the weight of impending war with Germany as Hitler’s forces continue to sweep across Europe. Into this uncertain maelstrom steps Grace Bennett, young and ready for a fresh start in the bustling city streets she’s always dreamed of - and miles away from her troubled past in the countryside. With aspirations of working at a department store, Grace never imagined she’d wind up employed at Primrose Hill, an offbeat bookshop nestled in the heart of the city - after all, she’s never been much of a reader.

Touching and moving story of WWII London
Revisado: 05-15-21
There have been an abundance of novels set during WWII. Some are searingly sad with their realistic depiction of the horrors of war. The depravity of the Nazi death camps figure prominently in many.
The Last Bookshop in London is a gentler and less sensational story. What it shows us is how Londoners carried on their everyday lives with strength and purpose.
For readers, the references to specific books and their meaning to s
Individual characters is a delight. The characters might be a bit formulaic but we care for them just the same.
This audiobook is a excellent choice for older children, parents and grandparents to listen to together and discuss.
