Historia
In a powerfully intimate and non-traditional (or "new-fashioned") memoir, Kwame Alexander shares snapshots of a man learning how to love. He takes us through stories of his parents: from being awkward newlyweds in the sticky Chicago summer of 1967, to the sometimes-confusing ways they showed their love to each other, and for him. He explores his own relationships—his difficulties as a newly wedded, 22-year-old father, and the precariousness of his early marriage working in a jazz club with his second wife.

I felt this biol throughoutmy heart and my soul. Loved the beautifully written poetry/ spoken word and the deep emotional connection between a father and his children, family of origin and his ex-wives. Loved it and was sad when it ended because I enjoyed each chapter so much.

Historia
Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business. Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

Historia
This is the story of how a nerdy, homeschooled kid in the church choir named John Stephens became the Grammy-winning, platinum-selling, genre-pushing pop star we know as John Legend. For a long time, he led a double life—excelling as a star student while his home life was in shambles, working in corporate America as a financial consultant while moonlighting as a musician in nightclubs, always straddling a line between the person he was and the person he wanted to be. These are his Words + Music.

Tremendously Enjoyed in so many Ways
Revisado: 11-13-22
This was my first Music and Story audiobook. I listened from beginning to finish all at once in the nearly 2 hrs presentation. I already was a dedicated fan of John Legend's music and a fan of biographies so learning about the life journey of this favored artist while also treasuring the beautiful music ended up being a beautiful gift. I highly recommend this audio performance.

Historia
Back when restaurant menus were still printed on paper, and wearing a mask—or not—was a decision made mostly on Halloween, David Sedaris spent his time doing normal things. As Happy-Go-Lucky opens, he is learning to shoot guns with his sister, visiting muddy flea markets in Serbia, buying gummy worms to feed to ants, and telling his nonagenarian father wheelchair jokes. But then the pandemic hits, and like so many others, he’s stuck in lockdown, unable to tour and read for audiences, the part of his work he loves most.

Super happy that I pre-ordered this audiobook!!!
Revisado: 06-06-22
David Sedaris is one of my absolute favorite comedians. His brand of humor is totally cup of tea. This audiobook, like most of his audiobooks, entertains with perfect timing and hilarious writing. In my opinion, this is one of his best. So grateful for all of the laughing that this book blessed me with. Even the serious and emotional family relationship issues that I could identify with you heart and soul.

Historia
Black girls and women disappear every day, but not without a trace. Join actress and activist Erika Alexander in a neo-noir, true crime drama as she searches for Tamika Huston, a 24-year-old Black woman from Spartanburg, SC who went missing in 2004. Her case became a rallying cry for other missing Black women in America and led to a growing demand to expose a system that ignores missing girls and women of color.

Wow,! One of the best audiobooks ever!
Revisado: 05-06-22
Loved this book on so many levels. The story of Tamika was told brilliantly. I am a lover of true crime nonfiction but this book allowed you to KNOW Tamika and those that loved and cared about her and how much her death affected everyone. I felt so grateful for the dedicated detective, journalists and the author who highlighted the cultural atrocities when a black person (and other minorities) is missing and the inequalities and injustices involved. Normally I believe that I might have been bored by the addition of music to the reading and recordings of those involved but the music here helped to set moods and honor Tamika's life appropriately. I feel blessed to have found this book by accident. Totally enjoyed it.

Excellently Witten and Narrated
Revisado: 12-05-21
My husband and I lost our 20 yo son 24yo to sudden cardiac death and although the cause was different than for Max's, I totally identify with the experiences, emotions, stages, regrets, guilty feelings and the time it takes to begin to heal individually and as a family from that early very raw pain and trauma. I will recommend this book to others that I meet aling my jounrney who have been unfortunate enough to join this awful club of losonf one of our children Thank you for putting into words what so many struggle to convey who are walking in our shoes.

Historia
In this spirited account, Billie Jean King details her life's journey to find her true self. She recounts her groundbreaking tennis career - six years as the top-ranked woman in the world, 20 Wimbledon championships, 39 grand-slam titles, and her watershed defeat of Bobby Riggs in the famous "Battle of the Sexes". She poignantly recalls the cultural backdrop of those years and the profound impact on her worldview from the women's movement, the assassinations and anti-war protests of the 1960s, the civil rights movement, and, eventually, the LGBTQ+ rights movement.
