Disappointed
Revisado: 05-14-18
I started this book with high hopes. The author promised a scientific approach to the topic of obesity. And it started off well in my opinion. The author was quoting studies and experiments, very interesting insight into why many diets fail. Or why you start by losing weight on almost all diets, but they fail in the end when you regain all the weight back and then some. Familiar experience to many...
And then it went downhill. The author argued for fasting as a way to lose weight and keep it off. But his argument was supported by phrases like "you should have listened to your grandma because she knew best". And some examples of fasting in religious and spiritual studies. And a 6 month study of some people losing weight with intermittent fasting. Didn't you just spend half a book telling me that all diets work in short term, and we should be looking at long term effects? Or an experience of one dude that fasted for very long time and felt fine, and almost ecstatic. It really infuriated me. I've read personal experiences of people fasting, their diaries are full of headaches and hunger, and drastic weight regain afterwards.
If you are looking for scientific approach to dieting and nutrition, keep looking. Or buy this book on half off sale and listen to the first half of this book only.

Historia
Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods, on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, with the woman sitting inside - the woman who was killed. She's been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It's a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm. Her husband would be furious if he knew she'd broken her promise not to take that shortcut home. And she probably would only have been hurt herself if she'd stopped.

Couldn't stop listening
Revisado: 05-01-18
After "Behind Closed Doors" by B.A. Paris kept me on edge the entire book, the natural thing to do was to listen to her book "The Breakdown", and it did not disappoint.
As I listened, my mind kept creating new theories of what could really be going on, wondering, guessing, and feeling completely drawn into the story. There were surprises up until the very end. Everything makes sense in the end, which is a breath of fresh air for a suspense book.
I love B.A. Paris's writing. No scenes are too drawn out, no unnecessary fluff. It seems as if every word has a purpose, every sentence gets you closer to unravelling the mystery. And the truth seems just around the corner throughout the book.
The narrator Georgia Maguire did an excellent job as always.

You know you liked a book, when right after listening to it you want to find more books like it.
It started off a bit slow, but soon enough I was drawn in. Characters were revealed layer by layer, some details catching me by surprise. This book makes you think, makes you root for characters, love some more, and suddenly have mild hate for others. Draws you in, ties everything into a beautiful conclusion at the end.

I am listening to a book I am only mildly interested in. None of the characters are likable enough to be rooting for. The story line has a few twists, but even that left me only mildly interested. This was one of the books that I listened to, while just wishing for it to be over.

Historia
Lacey Terwilliger's shock and humiliation over her husband's philandering prompt her to add some bonus material to Mike's company newsletter: stunning Technicolor descriptions of the special brand of "administrative support" his receptionist gives him. The detailed mass e-mail to Mike's family, friends, and clients blows up in her face, and before one can say "instant urban legend", Lacey has become the pariah of her small Kentucky town and a media punch line....

Time wasted..
Revisado: 10-12-17
I really wanted to like the book. It started off maybe slightly funny, punny jokes and witty humor of a lady that has been cheated on.. It didn't get any better as the book went on. Very predictable. The main character's humor stopped being funny. I really didn't care for the characters in this book, I just waited for the book to be over.

Any additional comments?
I found this book well structured, to the point, and helpful.
I loved that the author didn't try to treat anxiety with a cookie-cutter approach, one fits all. When it comes to anxiety, one definitely doesn't fit all.
Through short quizzes, to which you can easily give mental answers while listening to the audio book, the author helps you pinpoint what you are experiencing, names it, and gives you strategies specific to the type of anxiety you might have. I found that knowing the origin of my anxieties, putting a name to them, and knowing at least 2-3 strategies for each, is very helpful.
In fact, I'm about to purchase a book in print, in order to bookmark and reference it.

I might have wasted my time

Any additional comments?
I really tried to give this book a chance.
After I've listened to just a few first hours of it, I wanted to return it. But, looking at overall ratings, and it really seemed like something that interested me, judging by genre and description, I kept on listening, hoping for the book to draw me in. My hope was for a light and pleasant listen. However I just found it plain boring.
The conversations the characters had in the book were boring and predictable. And so drawn out. The characters would go back and forth in a conversation about nothing.. In an annoying way.
In the end, I felt like I wasted 11 hours listening to boring people have their boring lives.. I look a book that makes me feel, makes me think, admire or question the choices of characters.. But it didn't happen. They all did what a predictable person would do..

Religious? Why didn't the book description say so?
Revisado: 10-04-15
Would you try another book from Shaunti Feldhahn and/or Shaunti Feldhahn?
Absolutely not. Seems like an anecdotal, religion-based book on how to be an obedient wife. The author quotes her own research that she did, which appears to be very largely based on religious people. At least her narration really emphasizes that. I was looking for a more scientific, forward thinking, modern book. I don't think I want another guide on how to be an obedient wife. Will return this book.

Such a pleasant listen
Revisado: 08-25-15
What does Suzanne Toren bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Oh the narrator... The story flows so beautifully, read by Susanne Toren. I listened the whole book in a few evenings, and had the most beautiful experience.
Any additional comments?
I would love to listen to the book again. At no moment was I bored, or cold walk off from the book without pausing it (I do that accidentally quite often with other books). So many layers of race issue of 1970s are beautifully and gently peeled off in this book in a wonderful, sweet, and so painfully truthful story.

Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you'll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever.

Any additional comments?
I had higher hopes for this book. Even though I do not regret fully listening to this book, I feel like I have wasted more time than was necessary to receive the message of the book.
Why did I buy this book? I am sporadically messy, and wanted to get inspired to get my house in order, and have it stay that way.
Why did Marie Kondo write this book? She is Obsessed with tidying, it is her life, her passion, her job... So often I just found myself arguing with her in my head while listening to the book. And as she didn't really bring any scientific arguments, I always won :)
I will however try her technique of folding clothes, discarding the things that do not make me happy, being more thoughtful about the things I choose to buy. However, I won't be able to discard in the volumes as she recommends. Simply because I am not a millionaire just yet... So I will keep my electronics boxes if I might need to return the item... And will keep extra shower gel, because it was buy 2 get one free :)
All in all though. If you cannot get yourself to start tidying and organizing.. Get the book.. Be ready to be annoyed at times.. I will go and clean my closet, so I guess the book did what it was supposed to do.
