Historia
Thirteen-year-old Lizzie Hood and her next-door neighbor Evie Verver are inseparable, best friends who swap clothes, bathing suits, and field-hockey sticks and between whom—presumably—there are no secrets. Then one afternoon, Evie disappears, and as a rabid, giddy panic spreads through the balmy suburban community, everyone turns to Lizzie for answers. Was Evie unhappy, troubled, or upset? Had she mentioned being followed? Would she have gotten into the car of a stranger?

Strange, take on adult, male and young female relationships
Revisado: 06-14-24
I’m not sure what to think about this story. I thought it was well written. However, the central character seem to glorify the strange relationship between adult men and girls. I’ve read books where sexual inappropriate and predatory behavior was a part of the plot. However, this one never seem to get to the point that those behaviors are inappropriate. So it was a very uncomfortable read. Not sure that I liked it.

Historia
For the lucky among us, life is what you make of it, but for Dixie Wheeler, the theme music for her story was chosen by another long ago, on the day her father butchered her mother and brothers and then slashed a knife across his own throat. Only one-year-old Dixie was left alive, infamously known as Baby Blue for the song left playing in the aftermath of the slaughter. Twenty-five years later, Dixie is still desperate for a connection to the family she can’t remember, so when her childhood home goes up for sale, Dixie sets aside all reason and moves in.

Great Read but beware family violence
Revisado: 01-25-23
This was a really engaging read. For me, it had the right combination of mystery, psychological horror, and supernatural. That is really exciting. I also thought the narrator did a good job of capturing the sarcasm of the central character. I thought it was really well done. But it does have some very violent scenes. So if violence and descriptions of that violence are not to your liking, you might not wanna read this.

I have now completed all of the Pendergast novels. I love them! With the exception of this one. There wasn’t very much Pendergast in it and I found the story boring for my taste.

Bummed!
Revisado: 10-17-19
I loved the child finder so much! And I was so excited for another installment of this character. But it was too focused on details of child homelessness and other minute details. I really liked the story but it is like she forgot that she was also writing a suspense novel. So then at the end it’s like she raced to incorporate that part And by that time I didn’t really care. Really good details on Child homelessness though
