The Stokley Jones portrayal is problematic

The narrator’s need to make Stokley sound like Scooby Doo, as has happened in previous Ted Bell novels, is at best irritating, and at worst a bit racist.

Pick one story and tell it.

I got whiplash from the constant back and forth between the 1940s and present day. The “Tiger” Tang story was wholly unnecessary, and did nothing to further the modern day Alex Hawke narrative. It could’ve been summed up in a paragraph or two.
Not Mr. Bell’s best work.
