Historia
For GBI investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton, McAlpine Lodge seems like the ideal getaway to celebrate their honeymoon. Set on a gorgeous, off-the-grid mountaintop property, it’s the perfect place to unplug and reconnect. Until a bone-chilling scream cuts through the night. Mercy McAlpine, the manager of the Lodge, is dead. With a vicious storm raging and the one access road to the property washed out, the murderer must be someone on the mountain. But as Will and Sara investigate the McAlpine family and the other guests, they realize that everyone here is lying.

Historia
Chief medical examiner Kay Scarpetta is the reluctant star witness in a sensational murder trial when she receives shocking news. The judge’s sister has been found dead. Although there is no apparent cause of death, Scarpetta recognizes telltale signs of the unthinkable, and she knows the worst is yet to come. The forensic pathologist finds herself pitted against a powerful force that returns her to the past.

Disappointed
Revisado: 03-04-22
Very disjointed. Too much talk about too many things then all wrapped up in the last chapter. Will be my last in this series. I’m giving up.

Boring

No climax whatsoever. Pretty disappointed. Also the narrator is terrible and all the accents for the Amish, Indian doctor and Spanish detective were the same. Sounded like an Irishman lol.

Not my favorite
Revisado: 06-30-20
This was ok - not my favorite. Too much of Kate talking to herself about her feelings and not enough story. The storyline was a good one , I just wish it was more about the case and less about Kate’s feelings and past experience. Also, Tomasetti was a great character but it seems, since the last book, that all he does now is show up and say “damn Kate”.

the first half just dragged on and on. How many times could the characters talk about making a decision. There was only one choice. She leaves or he becomes Amish. Too bad. Could have been a good story but seemed like it was written in an afternoon

This book was ok but not as good as the others in this series. Also, the narrator was a bit dry. Like she was reading a grocery list...not the best inflections. I really missed Kathleen Early

Ansley Park is one of Atlanta’s most desirable neighborhoods. But in one mansion, in a teenager’s lavish bedroom, a girl has been savagely murdered. In the hallway, her horrified mother stands amid shattered glass, having killed her daughter’s attacker with her bare hands. Detective Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is here only to do a political favor; the murder site belongs to the Atlanta police. But Trent soon sees something the cops are missing, something in the trail of blood, in a matrix of forensic evidence, and in the eyes of the shell-shocked mother.

Really enjoying this series. The fact that Will Trent is not a the standard good looking male lead makes it even better. Kathleen Early is awesome - I listen to a lot of books and she is my definite favorite.

Rumspringa is the time when Amish teens are allowed to experience life without the rules. It's an exciting time of personal discovery and growth before committing to the church. But when a young teen disappears without a trace, the carefree fun comes to an abrupt and sinister end, and fear spreads through the community like a contagion. A missing child is a nightmare to all parents, and never more so than in the Amish community, where family ties run deep. When the search for the presumed runaway turns up a dead body, the case quickly becomes a murder investigation.
