Historia
As a single mom with my hands and heart full, finding love is the last thing on my mind. Then Everett Windward comes along. My new neighbor is charming, handsome, and sexy—and before I know it, I have a new friend…with benefits. Fun and filthy benefits. There’s just one problem—He’s also my son’s teacher. That alone should have me pumping the brakes… except it doesn’t. I’m drawn to him and to the way he makes me feel. Everett has a filthy side that has reignited something inside of me that I haven’t felt in years.

It Was Okay …
Revisado: 04-25-25
Okay, I’ve now read/listened to quite a few romance books by quite a few different authors (it’s my guilty pleasure ☺️) … Some better than others … And this was my first book by A. James (or Ashley James) & I’d have to say … This one was just okay … It wasn’t the “best”, but it wasn’t the “worst”, either. Hence, giving it a 3-star rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️ … And I DID like it in the end. HOWEVER, that being said, there WERE a few things that just felt completely unnecessary & didn’t add to the romantic plot hardly at all … For example, why did Gemma (the FMC) HAVE to have appendicitis randomly at all?? To show that Everett (the MMC) was a nice guy who took care of them (Gemma & her son) afterwards?? We already have seen that throughout the story! It just felt like it was creating extra drama for no reason, to me. Also, since when do they take the appendix out from the SHOULDER?! That seemed HIGHLY unlikely to me!! I’ve seen a lot of medical shows (now, admittedly, I KNOW those are not very real, either, but … ) & THAT never happens!! Maybe it’s a new thing?? 🤷🏽♀️ Also, Everett’s mom did not have to have an accident for that same reason, either. More unnecessary drama just to provide more “evidence” that Everett’s dad is a total jerk; we already knew that from conversations he & Everett have had … Secondly, I’ve read romances with “public play”; I don’t really mind it & some ARE hot 🥵🌶️, okay? But, IN YOUR CLASSROOM (Everett is an elementary school teacher)?!?! AT A SCHOOL EVENT?! Where YOU (a teacher at SAID school) are SUPPOSED to be supervising LITTLE KIDS?!? Where little kids AND their parents parents/other teachers could be wandering around?!? C’MON!! THAT was a little much for me!! Now, granted the classroom was empty at the time (the kids/other teachers/their parents were all in the school gym/caferitia at the time for “movie night”), but still … THIS IS YOUR JOB, man!! A job that you yourself said that you LOVE!! Do you think ANY school would hire you EVER again if you got caught?! NO!! ABSOLUTELY NOT!! 😒 THAT “spicy” scene felt COMPLETELY wrong & totally unnecessary to include right there … All the other “spicy” scenes were good & were 🥵🌶️, but THIS one just felt 😑, to me … Also, at one point during “s3xy time”, Everett calls Gemma a “s¡*t” & I’m like, “WHY?! Why are we STILL using that word in books to describe women in 2025 (the year that this was published)?! Just STOP!! Especially in ROMANCE books!!” Third (& lastly), WHY in the world does Gemma think 34 is “too old” to get pregnant?! It’s like, “Woman, you yourself said still have regular cycles! You should KNOW that in fact, no, you’re NOT too old!” My mom got pregnant with me at around the same age & she was TRYING!! Just USE protection if you don’t wanna get pregnant!! To me, she was just “asking” to get pregnant!! But, anyway, I WILL read/listen to the 2nd book of the series when it comes out because, like I said, I DID end up liking this book in the end! 😊

I Liked It In The End …
Revisado: 04-24-25
Okay, so this one was a hard one for me to rate … Honestly, I thought about only giving it a 2 because of the amount of “issues” I had with it that just didn’t seem to make much sense, but, in the end, I liked it, so I gave it a 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️. It had a pretty good ending with a twist that actually surprised me, so … 😊 HOWEVER, this book had A LOT of “issues” for me. Now, I understand that this is a “romance” & not everything HAS to always “make sense”, but these things are just too hard to “ignore”—for me, anyway … So, issue #1: So, Ryan (the MMC) just randomly decides to adopt this 15 year old kid just because he has a bad foster home & yet has NO experience with kids (other than his little nieces & nephews whom he HARDLY has contact with (since he has not been home in about 6 years) &, somehow, CPS is magically okay with that?! Oh, & did I mention that he also travels a lot for work?! WHAT?! Also, the adoption happens WAY too quickly!! It’s like one day, “Boom! He’s adopted!” after only being there (in Ryan’s home for like a month or 2 …) Also, how is Jake (the kid) just the SWEETEST kid ever after all that trauma he’s been through?! No kid would be “okay” after all he’s been through?! They DO mention going to therapy, yet we NEVER get to see though scenes … Issue #2: How can Polly (the FMC) be a small town business owner & YET AFFORD to have a whole BEDROOM (yes, a WHOLE 2ND BEDROOM, NOT just a 2nd closet!!) full of DESIGNER clothes/accessories?!?! It’s like, “I don’t care how BIG the tourist season is in your ‘small town’, there’s NO way that’s finically possible!” Also, she has NO money for A/C, either … Yet, somehow, she has money for designer bags and shoes?! WHAT?! Also, also, HOW can you go to Paris (Ryan is rich; like SUPER rich!! And takes her to Paris for fashion week b/c she LOVES fashion) & NOT be at all interested in going to any of the other “sites”, other than in Fashion Week, like the Louvre, Norte Dame, the Eiffel Tower?? Like, you’re IN Paris!! How could you NOT have a romantic dinner on top of the Eiffel Tower?? Ryan’s rich, for crying out loud!!” Missed opportunity right there!! 😒 Issue #3 (& I promise this is the last one 😉): Was it just me or was Ryan really mean & harsh towards his employees whenever he was talking to them?! Like, to me, he just seemed overly rude & aggressive towards them whenever they “messed up” in his eyes … It’s like, “Okay, yes, you think they messed up (& they might have), but you don’t have to literally YELL & SCREAM every time they do!” And, he always, obnoxiously brought up the fact that, “You work for ME” … It’s like, “Okay, we get it. You don’t have to mention that EVERY TIME! And, also, if you keep talking to them like that, they won’t for very long! Just because you’re rich, doesn’t give you the right to speak like that to your employees!” Also, what does Ryan even do? It was never really made clear … Like it’s clear that he’s a businessman & he made a fortune in said business, but WHAT business?? Tech? Finance? What?! It’s made clear that he has to travel around the world a lot, but doing WHAT?! Oh, and issue #4 (I just remember this one, I swear! 😅 It’s short, I promise!): I wish the author would drop the “Iconic Women’s Collective” club thing … #1: REALLY silly name, if you ask me; just call it “Businesswomen of Bitteroot Valley (the name of the small town of the series) Club” or something like that, #2: it’s seems unnecessary to the main plot & takes away from the romance. Okay, those are all my “issues” with this book; I am, however, gonna finish the series b/c 1. I’m almost done (just 2 more to go) & 2. I really DID like how this one ended! 😊

It Was Okay … The “Twist” Was Easy To Guess …
Revisado: 04-12-25
This one was good … A bit too similar to the first one in the series And the “twist” wasn’t really a twist at all in the end … I guessed who the “bad guy” was from the moment he came into the story. Unfortunately, this author isn’t really that good at “romantic suspense” … Not like Catherine Cowles! 😉 And it was all resolved within like a paragraph or two & no one really got hurt bad, so … 😕 And, “Sliver Sterling” (the famous “singer/songwriter” of the series) is obviously based off of Taylor Swift, too … But, anyway, I’m still gonna continue the series because it was cute & an easy read/listen! 🥰 Plus, I wanna know what happens to the other characters, too! 😁👍🏻

5 Stars!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😍
Revisado: 04-06-25
Okay, everyone should read this book!! EVERYONE!! 😍 Even IF it’s “just for kids” (I’m not a kid, obviously, nor do I have a kid of my own yet)! I first heard of this book from an interview on NPR on the “This American Life” podcast & what made me want to read it for myself is that it has been banned in some middle school libraries . . . 🥺 I, then, offered it up as one of my book choices for my book club. I honestly thought that they weren’t gonna pick it (none of the members are kids, obviously—much less middle school kids 😉), but I am SO glad they did! 😁 I LOVED it! Jordan (the MC) is a laugh-out-loud funny kid & I SO feel for everything he’s going through in this new school. Anyway, would 1,000% recommend for your kid OR ANYONE!! 👍🏻😁😍

I should’ve known Lincoln Pierce was trouble from the moment I held my knife to his throat. I’ve been running for most of my life, hiding away in a small town and hoping no one discovers who I truly am. The only problem is that I can never let anyone know the real me. Or at least that was true until my brother moved his best friend onto our shared property. Now, I’m stuck trying to avoid the nosy billionaire’s probing questions and piercing stares. And it doesn’t help that I almost killed him the first time we met.

FINALLY a bada** heroine (🎶 It’s heroin / But this time with an “E” 🎶) (Sorry, I’m a BIG Swiftie; I just had to! 😅) from Catherine Cowles that SAVES her man in the end & not the other way around!! 😍 (I won’t tell you who the “bad guy” is b/c that IS a MAJOR spoiler … ) I LOVED Arden as the FMC!! And I also LOVED Linc/Lincoln as the MMC, too!! Man, I just wanted to give that man a HUGE bear hug for everything his jerk of a father did to him & his little sister, Ellie (the next FMC of the next book 😉) … And the nicknames!! Oh, my God, the BEST nicknames EVER for a couple!! 😅 Now, I’ll be IMpatiently 😅 waiting for Book 5 of this series to come out in May, I think … 🤔😅👍🏻😁

I Liked It
Revisado: 03-28-25
This is my 3rd book by Kristen Proby, & I liked it; didn’t LOVE it as much as “When We Burn” (of another series by her) … Hence, my 3 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I gave it. Remington (the MMC) is a good single dad … except for one thing that happened in the beginning (& this isn’t really a Spoiler since it doesn’t really affect the main plot that much, don’t worry 😉): he GROUNDED his 5-year-old daughter for a MONTH just for sinking into the barn to “play with the horses 🐴. That seemed a little excessive to me, especially for a little 5-year-old with almost no concept of time & how long a month is. I get that he’s stressed out & that it can be dangerous to be around animals, especially if they’re still wild, but those horses were all trained & used to people … Plus, there was someone in the barn then; she wasn’t alone there. Also, the “love story” got a little slow beginning … Like he (Rem or Remington) just went into the coffee shop where Erin (the FMC) worked once or twice; didn’t really talked to her that much & Erin didn’t even know that he’s Millie’s (the other woman who worked in the coffee shop with her) brother before becoming the NANNY of his 2 kids!! I was kinda expecting that they would “run into each other” more than they really did. And, the “twist” at the end wasn’t really a surprise. I figured it out before it happened … But that being said, I DID like it, like I said, & I WILL be reading/listening to the following book in the series. 😊👍🏻

I’ve been in love with Bridger Blackwell for as long as I can remember. He’s a smoke show, kind, and gives the best hugs in the world. But best of all? He’s everything my sorry excuse for a father wasn’t. Now, I’m back in Bitterroot Valley, living across the street from Bridger and his adorable daughter. It doesn’t take long for all those old feelings to come rushing back, and every cell in my body knows that I belong with them. That they’re mine. Bridger’s arms are where I feel safest. They feel like home. I’m growing to depend on him, to truly love him and his daughter.

I Liked It 😊
Revisado: 03-09-25
I liked this one; I didn’t LOVE it (hence, the 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ instead of 5), but I really DID like it. I should also say that this is my 1st Kristen Proby read, & I’ll be reading/listening to the next one in the series when it comes out. But I DID not like some things: (1) Bridger (the MMC) seemed WAY too jealous at one point; the whole “nobody gives you a ride home when your car breaks down, BUT me” thing is NOT for me. I mean, the guy that offers her that ride was perfectly nice & it was completely innocent! I mean, yeah, he COULD have asked Dani (the FMC) out, but then she could have easily shut him down gently . . . Besides, nothing really came of it, anyway; it was just a one-time thing when her car broke down. And (2) the whole suspense sub-plot seemed resolved WAY too quickly, almost like it wasn’t really needed to make the story interesting . . . And, finally, (3), why did they do “traditional vows” for their wedding? I’m not trying to sound “judge-y” here, trust me, but it seemed like Kristen (the author) just didn’t wanna “bother” writing vows for them, almost like she couldn’t (or didn’t want to) come up with something for them to say during THEIR wedding! But, other than that, it had some really great “spicy” scenes! Would totally recommend if you like some “spiciness” in your Romance reading/listening like I do! 😉 👍🏻😊

Being a single dad was not on my short-list of life plans. Especially since I didn't know my daughter existed. Now, I'm not only juggling all that goes with having a four-year-old, I'm also trying to provide my daughter the skills to communicate her needs. I'm failing. Epically. I need big help with this small person. The woman assigned as my daughter’s mentor is a dream come true. Right up until she accuses me of neglect. Dr. Ellie Stone is fierce and determined and understands my daughter in a way I can’t.

I Liked HIM Better Than HER …
Revisado: 03-04-25
[Sigh] This one was hard for me to rate, because in the end, I liked it. I did (hence, the 3 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I ended up giving it) … (Honestly, the FREE epilogue REALLY helped the rating here; I almost cried reading it!) BUT that being said, this book had A LOT of “problems” for me—at least … Okay, first off, I liked the male lead (Blake) MUCH more than the female lead (Ellie)—& it’s NOT because she is deaf! Trust me, it’s not! THAT part was actually done pretty well; it was very clear that the author researched the deaf community & deaf culture really well! But, to me, Ellie seemed a bit hypocritical to be judging Blake for “sleeping around” in college when she LITERALLY did the EXACT same thing in high school! And, believe me, I understand that part of her was “scared” of having feelings & loving a hearing guy … Believe me, I get it! BUT, at the same time, I feel like she had a little bit of a “double standard” issue when it came to him, except in REVERSE!! (If that makes sense!) ESPECIALLY, ‘cause she HERSELF has HEARING parents & a HEARING sister who learned ASL for HER!! It would have been different if her whole family was deaf, but they’re not!! Also, can we PLEASE stop using the word “s!*t” in 2024 (when this book was published) when describing women who “sleep around”?!?! PLEASE!! Seriously, I don’t know what with this author & THAT word!! I thought we were all passed that!! Every time I saw that word, I was like, “Stop!” And it wasn’t just the men who said it; Ellie’s sister also said it! About Ellie!! 😡 And, could we also stop saying that guys are “p*$s¡es” just for getting emotional, PLEASE?! 😒 Also, I’m sorry, but I could care LESS about the bio-sister suspense plot line! Like, WHAT was that about?! Don’t me wrong, I felt sorry for the woman, but it literally came out of NOWHERE, just to add some “romantic suspense”, I guess … But it honestly felt like I was watching S3 of Bridgerton again (if you know you know 😉) with too many different plot lines going on at once! I felt like, “Can we just get back to the main couple now, PLEASE?! Or to the relationship between Blake & his daughter, Maisy?!” Like, maybe, show him giving her bath for the first time (she’s 4) after Blake’s mother says “You have to do it next time” … 🤷🏽♀️ Also, why doesn’t the social worker ever do a home visit after leaving Maisy with Blake?? Like she just leaves her there & then NEVER comes back to see how she’s doing?? C’mon!! I’m not a social worker, but even I know that’s not how “it works”!! 😕 Oh, and, also, WHY did * and SPOILER HERE * Maisy’s bio-mom HAVE to die?! It felt like such a “cop-out”, just to get her out of the picture for good! I mean, I’m not saying it CAN’T happen, but rather than make it a more interesting book about her mother getting sober & having a relationship with her daughter, she just DIES in the end & never sees her daughter again!! WHAT?! Oh, and, and, HOW are we supposed to feel bad for Blake’s brother who left FOUR (yes, 4!) women at the altar?! His story is supposed to come later in the series, but HOW?! I honestly can’t feel sorry for him AT ALL … Anyway, I liked it in the end as I’ve said, but I’m still unsure about continuing with this series & this author … 😕

Good, If A Little Too Long …
Revisado: 03-03-25
It’s good; I liked this one; it just felt a little bit too long, if that makes sense … Almost like the author WANTED this to be her longest book, so she dragged it out on purpose … But, yeah, I liked it; didn’t LOVE it like some of other books, but it was good, like I said. The middle part was kinda boring (that’s why it probably took so long to finish; it didn’t “grab me” like her others did), like, “Okay, get on with it, move it along … ” But I’m still looking forward to reading/listening to Kane’s story (the next book in the series) when it comes out! Oh, and, we also got a little bit more of Trent & Jud (& their ladies) (if you know, you know 😉), which was absolute perfection! 😍 👍🏻😊

There were shadows I was running from. Ones that haunted and taunted. Ones that made it so I had no choice but to disappear. I’d spent years hiding from the world. My little island haven, the only assurance of safety. It all changed the moment he showed up at my door. The hint of pain in his eyes told me that something haunted him, too. And I couldn’t help but be drawn closer. But finding the person I needed most came with risks I never expected. And when our ghosts find us again, neither of us may make it out this time.

I Liked It! 😊
Revisado: 02-25-25
I liked this one, not really LOVED it like I did with this author’s other books, but still really enjoyed it. I don’t know if it was because it felt a little bit slow at the beginning or if it was just me not really “in the mood” for it … but it took me a while for me to “get into it” … Maybe because it kinda felt like it dragged on a bit, too … Almost like she (the author) made it longer than it really needed to be to meet a page requirement, if that makes sense … Anyway, it just what it seemed like to me. 😉 Although I DID really like how Shay (the FMC) saved HERSELF for a change! Very unexpected from this author, I think! 😊👍🏻 Also, all the “s*xy scenes” were more sweet than really “spicy”. And, where was the unique, cute nickname?? Again with NO sweet nickname for the FMC?? I NEED Piper (the FMC of the next book in the series, I think) to have a cute nickname, CC [the author], PLEASE!! 🙏🏻😅 Oh, and * SPOILER HERE * I also liked how the the woman Shay’s “talking” online with wasn’t involved in hurting her at all … I was really worried that she was for a second! 😅 (I’m not gonna say who that woman is here; you’ll just have to read/listen to the book to find out! 😉)
