It digresses into supporting other fictional books passed off as reality. You know religion is fake, the biggest fraud and the bane of humanity. When you open your eyes, it is the universe looking at itself. That fact is more amazing than any fairy tale.

There is so much extra text, its ridiculous. It is also very choppy. Shouldn't have been published. I gave up and skipped a lot of boring chapters about the author and cops. Just the killer, please.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked hearing what the serial killers had to say. I liked the main character until he betrayed his friends. That's when I stopped listening.

Which scene was your favorite?

All the scenes where the whole focus was on what the killers were saying.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, the author and narrator did a good job. I listened to it on a road trip.

Any additional comments?

If you like true crime, I do think you'll like this book. I didn't finish the book because I got disgusted by the boy. He got all these serial killers to trust him and they told him all kinds of interesting things. Then he stabbed them in the back by doing the one thing he convinced them he wouldn't do.

Would you consider the audio edition of Testament to be better than the print version?

Yes. I've only used the print (Kindle) version once. Near the beginning there was a switch from talking about current events to giving an info dump. The print version helped me see where each started and stopped. It was the only time I needed the print version.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Testament?

All I can say is the moment exists, but if I explained it here, it would be a spoiler.

Have you listened to any of Benjamin L. Darcie’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. He's really good, though.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It's made me laugh. It's surprised me.

Any additional comments?

This is my first fictional book by David Morrell and I'm looking forward to listening to more of his books.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This narrator goes 90 to nothing. I have to slow it down to 75% speed. He doesn't even slow down between chapters. Maybe he was in a race with another narrator.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Absolutely.

Any additional comments?

The content is good, the narrator is really bad. I'd rather just read the book and I'd return this if I could.

What disappointed you about Sit Like a Buddha?

It's written for people who are around 21 years old. He talks about clubbing, making out, Jay Z, Parks and Recreation (TV show), and sounds like he's 15.

Has Sit Like a Buddha turned you off from other books in this genre?

No.

Would you be willing to try another one of Lodro Rinzler’s performances?

No.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. The author did a fantastic job of collecting all the minute details of this story. There are so many little details that it must have been a big challenge collecting and putting it all together. In addition, the book is organized and written very well.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Octopus?

The resumption of the beginning, which occurs very near the end. I actually said, "WHAT?!"

What does Jeff Woodman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He did a great job; I liked Jeff Woodman's narration as much as my favorite narrator, which is George Guidall.

Any additional comments?

If you like the show, "American Greed," or enjoyed the 3-part Madoff production, or liked the book on Charles Ponzi, I think you'll enjoy this book a lot.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it's very engrossing. The book stays on point, in the middle of action. I'm not even a scifi fan but I'm really enjoying this. I think that any of this author's books, or those of Stephen King, David Morrell, and their like, will have much higher audio book sales if they have them dramatized like this. It's much more enjoyable. When I listen to audio books, it's because I still want to watch TV, but with my eyes closed; this dramatization is the closest thing I've found.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Serial Killer Files to be better than the print version?

I'm not reading the Kindle version, I only bought that to lower the price of the audio book.

What about Charles Constant’s performance did you like?

He does a fine job.

Any additional comments?

I love this book. I like just about everything Schechter writes, but this one moves faster than others because there are so many killers to talk about. If you like true crime, I think you'll like this audio book.

What made the experience of listening to The Successful Novelist the most enjoyable?

David Morrell writes the type of fiction I aspire to write. This is a gem.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Successful Novelist?

When the author was narrowly saved from losing his hands.

What does Patrick Lawlor bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He does a great job. I like his narrating and have had zero issues with it. Good choice.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Confessions of a Suspense Novelist... but it really should not be a movie.

Any additional comments?

First, I looked into this author and found that he actually invented Rambo. Wow. Plus, he was unsure about First Blood ever being sold, and expressed the same beginner emotions that everyone probably feels.

So I got one of his books on Audible, "Testament", to find out if he writes the types of books I'd like to write (besides First Blood). Within minutes, I knew I wanted to write gripping suspense novels like David Morrell. "Testament" hits the ground running with a disturbing situation and dramatic question (hook) (Why is this happening to this family?). Yes, I definitely want a book by this author explaining his writing process.

"The Successful Novelist" delivers everything I hoped for. I really liked the information on opening lines and the occasional stories about Morrell's writing career. If you like books on the craft of writing, I think you'll like this book. I'm only about halfway through, and very glad this is a really long book with tons of information.
