Not what it sounded like it would be.
Revisado: 04-08-24
I’m an artist and I thought this sounded interesting. In the first bit you start being told of all the authors woke, social justice efforts and that is peppered in as you go. Disappointing really. I was hoping for a book for artists that didn’t have another agenda. We get enough of that in daily life. Others may enjoy the book and lessons. I didn’t.

Historia
As a mysterious fire rages through the hills above a privileged town in Southern California, Lew Archer tracks a missing child who may be the pawn in a marital struggle or the victim of a bizarre kidnapping. What he uncovers amid the ashes is murder - and a trail of motives as combustible as gasoline. The Underground Man is a detective novel of merciless suspense and tragic depth, with an unfaltering insight into the moral ambiguities at the heart of California's version of the American dream.

I enjoy the Archer series
Revisado: 04-08-24
I’ve enjoyed all of the books I’ve listened to from the Archer series. The narrator is fantastic and really adds to the hard boiled detective aesthetic.

Historia
Christmas is the single biggest annual event on the planet, a time for merry-making, over-indulgence, peace, goodwill, and the occasional family row. It’s as comfortable and familiar as a pair of old shoes and yet still glittery and exciting. But what do you really know about it? It’s stuffed full of traditions and rituals that most of us have been observing all our lives without having the slightest idea of where they come from.

Typical Bryson. Fun and informative. Great little listen. Easily scratches the Bryson itch if you’re a fan.

Historia
In this mind-expanding book, Anthony Peake reveals an extraordinary model of life after death—one that brings together ideas from ancient philosophy, neuroscience, quantum physics, and consciousness studies and manages to explain a number of seemingly mysterious experiences such as precognition, déjà vu, synchronicity, near-death experiences, and out-of-body experiences. It is called Cheating the Ferryman. This book is a much-awaited follow-up to Peake's internationally best-selling Is There Life After Death?, which introduced his revolutionary model.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 08-23-22
I heard Mr.Peake on a podcast discussing this book and was really excited to get it. I was really looking forward to hearing his theory and ideas. Quite literally, the things he said in the podcast, were the only interesting things in the book. Essentially, this is Every book on physics Brian Greene has put out. Kind of irritated I wasted a credit on this. Certainly glad I didn’t buy the physical copy. Now I’m hesitant to listen to any of his other works.

Historia
One of the most admired nonfiction writers of our time retells the story of one truly fabulous year in the life of his native country - a fascinating and gripping narrative featuring such outsized American heroes as Charles Lindbergh, Babe Ruth, and yes Herbert Hoover, and a gallery of criminals (Al Capone), eccentrics (Shipwreck Kelly), and close-mouthed politicians (Calvin Coolidge). It was the year Americans attempted and accomplished outsized things and came of age in a big, brawling manner. What a country. What a summer. And what a writer to bring it all so vividly alive.

Bill Bryson does it again. I haven’t found one of his books I haven’t liked. I do prefer that he narrates. One Summer was fantastic and gives a great history about a great time. Informative and funny!

Historia
James Gleick's story begins at the turn of the 20th century, with the young H. G. Wells writing and rewriting the fantastic tale that became his first book, an international sensation: The Time Machine. A host of forces were converging to transmute the human understanding of time, some philosophical and some technological - the electric telegraph, the steam railroad, the discovery of buried civilizations, and the perfection of clocks.

Not quite what I expected but, good.
Revisado: 09-24-21
I was expecting more of a technical explanation of time travel and the theories. You get some of that and most of it is explained in easy to understand ideas and terms. A lot of the book was more anecdotes of time and your life than anything. I still enjoyed it though and the narrator was great. Worth a listen.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

I had doubts
Revisado: 06-09-21
I had doubts about this book and what it would be. I’m glad I gave it a chance. As much as it’s about a celebrity that has the money to do what he wants and go where he wants it was oddly inspiring. It does make you contemplate some of the ideas and thoughts he has. I thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so I listened to it twice.
