completely changed my life
Revisado: 03-18-23
I adore Marguerite Gavin, and seeing her as the narrator is what clinched buying this book for me. I had no idea that it would completely change my sense of my self, my relationships, and my sense of my own future. I cannot recommend it enough. Even if it doesn't apply to you directly, it will help you gain understanding of your loved ones. I have recommended the audiobook version specifically to almost countless people at this point.

favorite so far in this series
Revisado: 02-20-23
I really liked the story in this one, the twists and turns were satisfying if still in the cozy mystery vein. Amanda Ronconi is a talented narrator and has such a pleasant voice. downloading the next rn

Historia
Though American by birth, Frances Wynn, the now-widowed Countess of Harleigh, has adapted admirably to the quirks and traditions of the British aristocracy. On August 12th, each year, otherwise known as the Glorious Twelfth, most members of the upper class retire to their country estates for grouse-shooting season. Frances has little interest in hunting - or birds or a second husband - and is expecting to spend a quiet few months in London with her almost-engaged sister, Lily, until the throng returns.

Historia
A dinner party at an English mansion with some stuffy, not-very-close friends is not exactly Jude's cup of tea. But the practically mummified torso of a woman found in the cellar is much more up Jude's alley. Once again, the two middle-aged women from Fethering, Jude and her reluctant neighbor, Carole, find themselves embroiled in another puzzling whodunit.

Historia
The vengeful King Schahriar agrees to stave off the execution of Queen Scheherazade until she finishes a particularly compelling story. Her plan? Bleed one tale into another. Through fanciful histories, romances, tragedies, comedies, poems, riddles, and songs, Scheherazade prolongs her life by holding the king’s rapt attention. With origins in Persian and Eastern Indian folklore, the stories of The Arabian Nights have been reworked, reshaped, revised, collected, and supplemented throughout the centuries by various authors and scholars.

I despise the narration
Revisado: 07-31-22
Not only is this an abridged version, but the narrator has a bizarrely precious affect that is incredibly off putting and makes the whole thing almost painful to listen to. I didn't finish it the first, second, or third time I tried. I love all of Andrew Lang's compilations and this was wildly disappointing. I would skip this and do one of the fairy anthologies that has a variety of narrators instead.

Loved this top to bottom; I'm gutted that it's over. Fabulous narration, great characters, fast paced dynamic story telling. Creepy and surreal. I've already recommended it to two people and can't wait to see what else Jacqueline Milne has narrated and Jess Kidd has written.

creepy!!!!
Revisado: 10-23-20
Harry has always been a little old school about women for my taste but there was way too much creep factor in this one. it was otherwise a good story, but the whole creeping on a minor motif is not for me.

Historia
Chris Bathum was a respected therapist, addiction specialist, and founder of one of the fastest-growing rehabilitation chains in America. But Bathum was a total fraud: he was a homicidal meth-head with a history of sexually abusing his patients, scamming insurance companies, and eliminating whistle-blowers. Like Rose Stahl. But this intended victim would be his last. Stahl would risk her life to bring down the monster she and so many other people in need had once trusted for their salvation.

bias is strong in this one, great narrator tho
Revisado: 09-08-20
I found the tone and language used to describe addicts offensively callous and dehumanizing. The author oversimplifies often and to a great degree. The highly repetitive word choice becomes grating quickly.
I thought the narration was fantastic and the story is pretty wild, but it's a shame to think how good this could have been with better writing and editing.

perfection.
Revisado: 05-19-19
This may be the book (audio or print) that I love the most. It took me months to finish, due to my reading habits and its sheer length, but I regret only that it has ended. I feel bereft. Bill Homewood was great, even if his French accent made me laugh sometimes, he usually had me laughing at just the right bits.
