Wonderful start to a ‘new’ series (for us)!
Revisado: 04-30-25
We’re so pleased to have discovered this series, and are truly looking forward to delving in! We have been thoroughly enjoying the Inspector Montelbano series by Andrea Camilleri, but are getting close to the end, and were not sure we’d be able to find another writer with a similar engaging cast of characters and entertaining story lines … but Martin Walker’s Inspector Bruno has filled the bill! Thank-you!

As a Coast Guard rescue swimmer, Hudson Ellis knows that hesitation can mean the difference between life and death. He’s always prided himself on being in the right place at the right time, especially when it came to Allie Rousseau…until the night he left for basic.

Crimebusting duo DI Jackman and DS Evans are back, solving another crime that will make your skin crawl. Twenty years ago: a farmer and his wife are cut to pieces by a ruthless serial killer. Now: a woman is viciously stabbed to death in the upmarket kitchen of her beautiful house on the edge of the marshes. Then a man called Daniel Kinder walks into Saltern police station and confesses to the murder. But DI Rowan Jackman and DS Marie Evans of the Fenland Constabulary soon discover that there is a lot more to Daniel than meets the eye.

Revisado: 02-01-25
Love all of the twists and turns, and excellent character development! There were two small items that nagged though… what happened to the murdered farmer at the beginner who had his face cello-taped>. A very dramatic picture, then that particular part of the murder scene seemed to forget about him? And there was one technical matter to do with the medical industry that seemed to be erroneous, but don’t wish to make any spoiler alerts with the beautiful plot, so will just leave that one out ;). LOVED the book though!! Can’t wait to continue with the series!

What a beautiful tale!
Revisado: 10-21-23
I picked up “Delicious” right after reading Ruth Reichl’s “Save me the Plums” autobiography… and I’m so glad I did!
Ruth has become my new favourite author, and I look forward to seeking out, reading (listening to), and sharing her many other works! I highly recommend this lovely story full of wonderful characters, tender moments, mystery, and enticing food!
(PS - I also just ordered one of her cookbooks “Gourmet Today” too, and can’t wait to add some of the doubtless ‘delicious’ recipes to my repertoire, too!)
Thank you Ruth!!

Historia
When Condé Nast offered Ruth Reichl the top position at America’s oldest epicurean magazine, she declined. She was a writer, not a manager, and had no inclination to be anyone’s boss. Yet Reichl had been reading Gourmet since she was eight; it had inspired her career. How could she say no? This is the story of a former Berkeley hippie entering the corporate world and worrying about losing her soul. It is the story of the moment restaurants became an important part of popular culture, a time when the rise of the farm-to-table movement changed, forever, the way we eat.

Our least favourite of the series - if this had been the first, we’d not have read another!
Revisado: 08-15-23
Scattered and tedious, with the main characters that we’ve come to know and love in previous books, seeming to have lost their depth.
Inspector Gamache in particular, came across as flat and almost incompetent, not even resembling the vibrant, intelligent, kind, and intuitive man of previous novels. Very disappointing overall.
The narrator however, as always was excellent!
