Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Could've Been Shorter

This guidebook is good in the beginning, but then seems to ramble. I finished with at least one take-away. I could recommend listening until you hear something that you find impactful, then moving on.

Any additional comments?
Listening to this book took my knowledge of Steve Jobs from superficial to relatively informed. Before, I wouldn't have known why 1984 was a significant year in his life. After, I was able to spot countless artistic liberties and timeline errors in the movie starring Ashton Kutcher. Not only did I learn plenty, but I was entertained. Jobs' life made (unsurprisingly) for a great story.

Historia
Though they have the vote and the Pill and haven't been burned as witches since 1727, life isn't exactly a stroll down the catwalk for modern women. They are beset by uncertainties and questions: Why are they supposed to get Brazilians? Why do bras hurt? Why the incessant talk about babies? And do men secretly hate them? Caitlin Moran interweaves provocative observations on women's lives with laugh-out-loud funny scenes from her own, from adolescence to her development as a writer, wife, and mother.

This book changed my life.
Revisado: 07-20-16
What did you love best about How to Be a Woman?
Caitlin Moran is the kind of kook I'd want around all the time. Her hilarious enthusiasm and unpretentious, thoughtful take on being a woman are inspiring.
I recommend this book often, and if someone's stuck in the car with me, I play it for them.
Both the humor and the substance of this book win. It can be broken into bits or consumed in one go. Caitlin Moran presents anecdotal and empirical evidence to clarify her ideas. The points she makes, whether on topics as charged as abortion, or as funny as pubic hair, are clear and logical. I remember feeling intense relief at hearing this woman's insights into the joys and dilemmas faced by women. She empowered me to be more confident, well-informed, and comfortable in my own skin.

Smutty, Boring, and Trashy
Revisado: 07-20-16
What disappointed you about Fifty Shades of Grey?
This book reminds me of fanfiction written by a pervy teenage girl. That's what it originally was, right?
Though I once wrote and read such fluff avidly, I do not like this book. I was compelled to read it because of the hype and the money I'd spent.
How could the performance have been better?
This book is probably better read with your eyes than your ears. You can skip the boring bits.
Becca Battoe is fine. However, E.L. James couldn't have anticipated an audio version of the book. Maybe the production team didn't realize how tedious parts of the story would be in audio form. I was so irritated by constantly hearing exactly what date and time the characters emailed each other that it still make me mad. I am writing this review four years later.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
This book is silly. The main character is such a blah, basic b!#@$. The protagonist is such a ridiculous fantasy man. Still, I can't deny the cliffhanger and intrigue left me guiltily wanting to know what happened next. I went on Wikipedia. I couldn't stand the idea of spending more money on this junk.

Historia
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Excellent Series for a Nerd
Revisado: 03-04-13
Would you listen to A Game of Thrones again? Why?
Yes, I would, because it's packed with intrigue, gore, and so many interwoven characters. It's pretty hard to keep all the characters straight, but that doesn't get much in the way of the exciting plot.
Any additional comments?
The reader is acceptable, but nothing more. He has a nice gravely, old man voice, but it has very little range. The characters all sound pretty much the same. It's like having grandpa tell you a story.

A Brief Guide to the Greek Myths leads the listener through the vibrant stories of ancient Greece, from the origins of the gods through to the homecomings of the Trojan heroes. All the familiar narratives are here, along with some less familiar characters and motifs. In addition to the tales, the audiobook explains key issues arising from the narratives and discusses the myths and their wider relevance.

Too Scholarly for Me
Revisado: 02-01-13
Would you try another book from Stephen P. Kershaw and/or Cameron Stewart?
No, not from Stephen P. Kershaw. It was too dry and boring. I suppose that it's my fault for choosing something that could probably be used as a textbook (assuming it's accurate).
Cameron Stewart was fine.
Has A Brief History of the Greek Myths turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes.
Any additional comments?
I like the way the author explaines the way the different sources have details. For example, he'll say something like so-and-so either killed himself or was strangled to death by his enemy or went on a hunting expedition.

Excellent, Fanciful
Revisado: 01-02-13
What was one of the most memorable moments of Life of Pi?
The plot twist at the end was great. I was about to go see the movie, but I'm glad I waited until I'd finished the book.
What about Jeff Woodman’s performance did you like?
His Indian accent was good (as far as I can tell). His Japanese was not exactly spot-on, but it was fine.

Historia
Shocking and controversial when it was first published in 1939, Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic The Grapes of Wrath remains his undisputed masterpiece. Set against the background of Dust Bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of Tom Joad and his family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel west in search of the promised land. Their story is one of false hopes, thwarted desires, and broken dreams, yet out of their suffering Steinbeck created a drama that is intensely human, yet majestic in its scale and moral vision.

Sobering, Worthwhile Read
Revisado: 12-11-12
What did you love best about The Grapes of Wrath?
I loved learning about the experiences of people from the dust bowl. It's awful and amazing how people treat each other. The story is depressing, but absorbing.
What does Dylan Baker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Dylan Baker is a good reader.
Any additional comments?
The harmonica intros are a bit loud and annoying.
