Did I miss something?
Revisado: 08-22-21
As much as I like the scientific explanations, I feel like I was looking for some concrete action items. Although so thorough to the point of tedious was the science (and I don’t know enough about that to comment on its authenticity), I feel like I kept waiting for actual actions I could take and they were few and far between. Stuffed in at the end, a few dribbles about breakfast and the importance of exercising (duh). I really wanted to like this book, but find I’m left wanting.

Historia
Most of us have at some point in our lives felt like an outsider, sometimes considering ourselves "too weird" to fit in. Growing up as a Russian immigrant in West Texas, Olga Khazan always felt there was something different about her. This feeling has permeated her life, and as she embarked on a science writing career, she realized there were psychological connections between this feeling of being an outsider and both her struggles and successes later in life.

Weird/different meaning immigrant/ethnicity
Revisado: 05-28-21
The authors personal story is about being an immigrant. And much of what she talks to relates to ethnicity differences. I only made it a third of the way through. Maybe it gets better. But I was hoping for a broader use of the word “weird,” not just ethnicity/immigrant differences. Nevertheless, I think it is well written and read just too... well, focused on ethnicity as the focus for what she considers weird. If that’s something that you can relate to then I think you will enjoy this book. If you looking for a different definition of weird, then not so much.

In this emotionally charged how-to guide, you'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll discover eye-opening lessons about: The mask you're wearing. The one you hide behind when you say everything is "just fine" when it's not. Your unrealistic expectations. The goal-setting tactics you're deploying to get ahead could be what's holding you back. The difference between struggling and suffering. Being a mother is a struggle - it always has been - but your suffering is optional.

For Mother’s Only!
Revisado: 05-15-21
This is a great book if you’re a mom or you want to understand moms.
I bought it because multiple reviews said “this is great for all women” and even “men could benefit from this book”.
I’m not a man or a mom and although I really like the author and the content (hence the five star), it is not for non-mothers or men unless you have a lot of time on your hands, nothing better to do, or like I said... want to understand how many moms are feeling.
I only made it a third of the way through before it actually became more damaging than good for me as a single woman without kids.

Historia
The restoration agriculture system described in this award-winning book works! It is possible for humans to produce staple foods using perennial agricultural ecosystems that actually improve the quality of the environment. This can be done on a backyard, farm, or ranch scale and is needed right now - on a global scale. Restoration Agriculture explains how we can have all of the benefits of natural, perennial ecosystems and create agricultural systems that imitate nature in form and function while still providing for our food, building, fuel, and many other needs.

Happy with this book.
Revisado: 10-06-20
I had a read a negative review and wasn’t sure about the book, but read some others and thought I would give it a try.
The negative reviewer is a troll. He is the typical “take out of context” and make a case for my point of view (even when it’s not supported) type of reviewer.
Personally, I found the book to be in depth enough that somebody working the land can actually get some benefit, and wide enough to catch people of all levels and direct them towards some new thinking.
I felt the approach was open, honest, and thoughtful. It’s obvious the author has his opinions and his experiences, and he makes no qualms about it. Rather, I found the book to be pretty balanced overall.
I studied horticulture in college some decades ago and the head of the department was enamored with soil science and it left a lifelong impression on me. Although I am not a farmer, I have enjoyed landscaping and now am working towards a food forest in my urban backyard.
So I’m not super new to the subject, but not an agricultural specialist either.
Thank you for a great read. It will definitely be a book I listen to again and again as my skills and knowledge increase.

Historia
Our most commonly held formula for success is broken. Conventional wisdom holds that once we succeed, we’ll be happy; that once we get that great job, win that next promotion, lose those five pounds, happiness will follow. But the science reveals this formula to be backward: Happiness fuels success, not the other way around.

Read by a robot - don’t fall for the five star reviews!!
Revisado: 04-15-19
I squally try to find something good and give an even review.
But I can’t make it through this book.
The guy reading this sounds so much like a robot that I can’t get any information out of it.
It. Is. As. If. He. Has. A. Per. I. Od. After. Ev. Ever. Ry. Word. And. Ev. Er. Y. Syl. La. Ble. Of ev. Er. Ry. Word.
I have no idea why he has five star reviews except I suspect they are not random people, but people he knows somehow.
I feel the need to warn others about this book. It may be great information in a book, but whoever is reading this is simply terrible.

Mostly great!
Revisado: 04-15-19
The first few chapters are rough. Pretty much a rant about the PR industry. It gets old after awhile. I almost didn’t make it past them. In the midst of this tirade there are a few good tips.
The book gets a lot better after about chapter 3 or 4 and tends to increase in information from here all the way to the end. There is so much stuffed into the last chapter or so, it feels like listening again would be advised.
Overall good advice about being genuine and not lying, but it’s read with what sounds like an arrogant tone which is a little jarring to parts of the message.
Nevertheless, I recommend this book for every entrepreneur. Solid advice given about dealing with the media outlets, in good and bad times.
