Book is fine... reader is awful
Revisado: 03-15-20
This is a fairly good story but the reader is terrible. She can't do a man's voice for beans. She sounds whiny and ruins the whole book. I finally just read the book instead of having it read to me. I like to read along but I just couldn't take any more of this voice. I have the sequel and will start the book w/audio but may have to shut her down again.

Historia
Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

Had this in my library unread for 5 years!
Revisado: 02-14-20
I just downloaded this and started out for a walk. I hate this book. Hated the narrator, the story, the ugliness. I didn't find any redeeming qualities what so ever! ugh My biggest regret is that I didn't start it 5 years ago so I could exchange the thing!

It was just okay...
Revisado: 12-06-19
I listened to the whole book but it wasn't a real page turner for me. I didn't really care about any of the characters or what happened. I stuck with it to the end waiting for it to get better and it never did for me. I usually like King's books but this one just wasn't that outstanding for me. It's just a matter of personal taste in theme.

Very different!
Revisado: 12-06-19
Imagine having a dog as smart as a human!! You have a dog? You probably think he/she is very smart. You ain't seen nothing yet! This dog is very special. The whole premise of the book is a bit far out, it is a Koontz book after all. But it's so good. This smart as a human dog saves a guys life after all and then goes on to become his beloved pet. Wait! More than a pet. . A friend, a guard dog in the extreme sense of the word. There is a little love story also with a woman who has lived a life beyond sheltered. She will blossom with love coming her way. Very very good book, I couldn't wait to get time to listen to it and continue the tale until the end.

Something about this complex guy...
Revisado: 12-06-19
Something about this guy and his life and crime keeps me trying to figure him out. He's so complex. He was such a pathological liar that even after convicted and sent to prison experts still weren't sure he was telling the truth about what his background really was that made him turn out the way he did. Anne Rule worked with him at a rape line crises center, imaginge that, and she said he lied till the day he was put to death.

Tried it again...
Revisado: 12-06-19
The first time I bought this audio book I hated it. The reader's voice grated on my nerves. I returned it for a credit and gave a one star review. Since then people keep saying how good it is. I decided to give it another go. While I never did care to listen to such a strong accent, I finally just went with it. Turns out it IS a wonderful strong story. I'm glad I gave it another chance. So if you buy this and at first you feel like I did... keep plugging along. Soon you will get into the story and enjoy it. There is a surprise ending, so stick with it!!
