The storyline is interesting and not predictable. Narration is perfect. It could’ve used more of a connection between Mathinna and Hazel or Ruby. I hope it gets to be a movie someday.

A well-written memoir read beautifully by the author, filled with wit, honesty, and humor (if an interview takes place in the forest…hah!). I wished along with Katie that I could tell my mom how broken I was after she died. She weaves her life story thus far with a behind the scenes look at the television news industry, historical events, and current topics in the news today. I enjoyed this book.

To be honest, I didn't finish it. It's less a book and more like someone wrote down an outline and then just spoke into a mic whatever came to mind. I prefer books that are written and then edited several dozen times. I enjoyed the movie and I really wanted to enjoy this title.

Feeding the Dragon is more than simply an audio book--it is an experience! I truly enjoyed the story, the writing, the performance. I did not want it to end.

I'm no historian so I can't attest to the accuracy of Molokai but it sure was a good read. Interesting, heart-wrenching at times, and humorous as well, this book taught me a lot about Hansen's disease, the lifestyle of the patients, and the suffering of their families. A fair amount of research went into the writing of Molokai. It could have used additional research by the narrator into how to pronounce Hawaiian words. The narrator did a disservice to the author and, at least for readers from Hawaii, the narration was distracting. A few examples are maʻi Pākē, mispronounced as mai Pake; the Kaʻiwi Channel was pronounced the Kai-WEE Channel; the beautiful melodious name of Pele's sister Namaka ʻo Kahaʻi was butchered beyond recognition. She was starting to get it right towards the end but didn't bother to go back and correct her earlier recordings. These words and phrases were used 10-40 times each so it was a recurring irritation. This could have been avoided with a trip to almost any kumu hula anywhere--California, New York, wherever the narrator lived. Nevertheless, it was a great story. I read a review of the author's story of Honolulu and it too has negative reviews on the narrator so I plan to read that rather than listen to the audiobook.

What did you love best about Leaving Time?

I loved learning about elephants, although at times it seemed very long and drawn out. But I believe everything we learned about the elephants was used to enhance the human story by giving it a deeper meaning.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jenna was my favorite character. She was determined to find her mom.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

The multiple narrators worked well for this book. Their voices were clear, pleasant, and didn't distract from the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, the end is beautiful.
