There something to be said about having a good mindset and outlook on life a la “The Secret” but this guy is a zealot. This is pseudoscience.

This book is written like many popular self improvement books (Grant, Ferris, etc.) It was a combination of story telling with n=1 and generalizing using pop science that wasn't that interesting.

vocabulary is great. Einstein's trajectory is fascinating. peaking mid life from a career stand point. especially with luminaries like musk pivoting to trying to run Twitter after so much success, will it persist?

Maybe this book was before it's time and I am reading out of order but it basically just talked about the importance of getting and flow and cited the occasional study on what helps people live long, which felt regurgitated from a number of other books on the subject.

If you studied or work in finance, or read more than a few of the quintessential finances texts this book will not teach you anything new.

Also, the core principle of this book is taught early on with the rest of the book spent giving examples and trying to compel you to believe it.

Not many novel insights that other AI books haven't touched on. Discusses some issues we will face in an AI enabled future that will be unique to the era but even then the discussions aren't very profound.

Obviously there is a lot about the brain we don't know. The author recognizes this and often isn't able to conclude much definitively.

Moneyball 2.0: Man + Machine

Revisado: 08-21-19

Moneyball cleared the hedges for a data driven approach to baseball. Astroball took it to the next level, recognizing the limitations of data that make the man and machine approach so important.

For example, signing an expensive, 34 year old Justin Verlander late in the 2017 season flashed models red because it probably wouldn't give good value. But the models couldn't account for where team moral was from an injury to Correa and a city devastated by Hurricane Harvey.

Another cool component of the process was the way Sig Mejdal and his team adjusted the scout's ratings based on their biases. Since Moneyball, controlling for human biases has emerged as an important dimension in decision making.

As the author recognized, many teams have since caught on to the Astros just as they did with the Oakland A's. A competitive edge requires novelty. Already have we begun to try to quantify clubhouse chemistry and other intangibles that are currently evaluated imperfectly by people. It's exciting to imagine what the next big feature in the process will be!

As a near beginner to blockchain tech I found this book very valuable to understanding the basic concepts behind the blockchain, smart contracts, and decentralized apps.

As someone who mostly reads books about finance, business, and psychology I felt that the text was very rich. Some of the philosophical tangents went over my head.
