Interesting storyline

I found the story interesting but was slow at times. Worth the read but wish it was a little more eventful.

Inspired and imaginative, historically accurate work of fiction.

I loved the story, attention to historical accuracy, and the narrator. A very interesting read. It is a little slow to start but once the story started to unfold I was hooked.

I liked the story but was thrown off by its narration
Revisado: 12-28-22
I liked the story mostly. It had many interesting aspects but, the narration threw me off. I really wanted to like it but just couldn’t get into it as much as I would have liked with so many different accents- which weren’t done very well.

Unexpectedly one of my new favorite Authors
Revisado: 12-14-22
I read mostly WWII fiction. After a few misses lately I came across this title and decided to try it out. Shortly put- this author has a gentle and smooth way with words. The imagery and voice in the story is spectacular. I love that the story was based on factual events. The story was both beautiful and heart breaking. I really enjoyed listening and will now move on to more titles by this author!

Historia
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

My favorite WWII book to date
Revisado: 11-03-21
I did not start this book with high expectations. However, here I am having just finished it and am fully blown away. There are so many lessons to be taken from this book. It is different than any book I’ve read about the Holocaust and just is truly a special piece of work. The characters and background are interesting and inspirational. Fabulous read!

The New York Times best-seller with more than one million copies sold worldwide. Inspired by the incredible true story of one Jewish family separated at the start of World War II, determined to survive - and to reunite - We Were the Lucky Ones is a tribute to the triumph of hope and love against all odds. It is the spring of 1939 and three generations of the Kurc family are doing their best to live normal lives, even as the shadow of war grows closer.

A story unlike any I’ve read about the Holocaust.
Revisado: 05-21-18
This story follows the Kurc family as they struggle to remain safe during WWII. It is told in chronological order and while there are many characters, the story is absolutely riveting. I laughed, I cried (many times) and found myself holding my breath waiting for the outcome of some of the difficult trials this family was put through. The writing is expressive and the narrator does well clearly telling the story and using tone to distinguish different characters from one another. I loved that this story covered so much of the happenings around all of Western Europe and even Central America and even America through the storyline of “Caroline”. It truly told the ripple effects of such a war that was taking place away from the “front lines”. Unlike other stories that mainly concentrate on Germany or Poland, this one really gives the reader a sense of the life of Jews who were lucky enough to avoid concentration camps. Beautiful story almost unbelievable. One of my new top 20 favorite books ever.
