Historia
Before you could tuck it under your arm, before you could bring it up on your phone–you did not read Scripture, you listened to it. For centuries, the only way to access God’s Word was to hear it read aloud in public gatherings. Today, we blessed to own personal printed copies of the Bible, but there is a surprising benefit to hearing the Scriptures read aloud as it was for so many generations.

Why did the books turn into chapters?
Revisado: 12-25-24
One day you’re listening to the gospel of mark, the next it’s chapter 1. Why? No clue. NIV, please fix this. Do better. This is annoying. But. The performance is great. Minor details or slight changes in phrases are a little weird. Like “fishers of men” changed to “fishers of people” or something gender neutral is absurd. You know what? Stick to the KJV.

Listen for yourself. Listen many times. Make your own judgement about it. I think it’s a must-have for any library.

Historia
From the best-selling authors of The Daily Stoic comes an inspiring guide to the lives of the Stoics, and what the ancients can teach us about happiness, success, resilience, and virtue. In Lives of the Stoics, Holiday and Hanselman present the fascinating lives of the men and women who strove to live by the timeless Stoic virtues of Courage. Justice. Temperance. Wisdom. Organized in digestible, mini-biographies of all the well-known - and not so well-known - Stoics, this book vividly brings home what Stoicism was like for the people who loved it and lived it.

The author should NOT narrate.
Revisado: 07-30-22
Ryan must love the the sound of his own voice, but I don’t. He’s an evangelist for Stoicism, and I can’t fault him for that. But like Christian televangelist, there’s a pleading tone in his voice that turns me off. In particular, the inflections he uses — apa-THEY-ah. Made me cringe every time he said it. Avoid his audiobooks, especially this one. Get Sharon Lebell’s translation of Epictetus’ The Art of Living, which is narrated much better. And the content is clean, practical, apolitical and an easy listen.

Historia
If life is but a dream, to what do we awake? The central premise of this book is the admittedly ridiculous but incontrovertibly true assertion that the universe does not exist. This is something you can understand conceptually, like watching a documentary about Antarctica, or experientially, like moving to Antarctica. There's also a related phenomenon where you fall asleep watching the documentary and wake up in the frozen wasteland.

Jed. What can ya say?
Revisado: 03-04-22
Highly entertaining, and thought provoking. Great performance. Hope they make more. I’m not sure who Jed McKenna is, but I like his style. Hope you do too!
