Historia

Insightful and consise review of strategic opportunities and challenges facing Portugal, carefully researched by a renouned scholar and insider. My only complaint is audible carelessly placing this excelente work, in Portuguese, in the Spanish language section. Please fix that.

Historia
From a background of ease and comfort, from a time and place where life still makes some kind of sense, Anna Blume embarks on a search for her missing brother. Soon she finds herself trapped in a city whose consciousness is obsessed with last things: with the means and manner of death. In this culture of doom, the masses are homeless, theft has ceased to be a crime.

audio exceptional, narrative so so

The narration reals makes this short story worth listening. The storyline, however, while being compelling and immersive, really leads nowhere. An accomplished literary exercise in distopia.

This Very Short Introduction introduces listeners to the key concepts of political philosophy: authority, democracy, freedom and its limits, justice, feminism, multiculturalism, and nationality. Accessible and assuming no previous knowledge of the subject, it encourages the listener to think clearly and critically about the leading political questions of our time. Miller first investigates how political philosophy tackles basic ethical questions such as "how should we live together in society?"

... but closer to the end it veers towards the neoliberal global order proselytization. It is a shame that the opportunity to touch on the current diversity of political philosophies. Case in point, we are again in the middle of a super power contest and one has to wonder why political realism of the likes of Henry Kissinger or John Mearsheimer is entirely missing.

Historia
That man should have dominion “over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth” is a prophecy that has hardened into fact. So pervasive are human impacts on the planet that it’s said we live in a new geological epoch: the Anthropocene. The question we now face is: Can we change nature, this time in order to save it? Elizabeth Kolbert, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Sixth Extinction, takes a hard look at the new world we are creating.

A clear and sobering view on the future of Nature
Revisado: 08-26-21
The mixture of facts, science, and personal verification gives this extraordinary book a journalistic, almost personal, feeling. It is impossible to remain insensitive to the realization of how blindly we prefer to shape our own future.

Historia
The deep-learning revolution has brought us driverless cars, the greatly improved Google Translate, fluent conversations with Siri and Alexa, and enormous profits from automated trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Deep-learning networks can play poker better than professional poker players and defeat a world champion at Go. In this book, Terry Sejnowski explains how deep learning went from being an arcane academic field to a disruptive technology in the information economy.

Best book on history and future of deep learning
Revisado: 03-23-19
this is really a testimony as much as it is a review on the topic - the author was and remains a key contributor to the field of AI. The advantage of first hand accounts is that they go a lot further and a lot wider than books by outsiders. In addition to a detailed account of neural computing from preceptrons to multilayer neural networks with time delayed memories, we also learn about related fields like Neurobiology, Artificial Life, and the sociology of learning. This book has a good chance of becoming the reference account for a general audience on the formative years of Artificial Intelligence.

A modern economic history of Globalism
Revisado: 02-23-19
First read it, then listened to audio version. For me this was the definite book on Globalism, neoliberalism, and a particularly relevant strain for the European reader, ordoliberalism. First conjured to shore the privileged of falling multinational Habsburg empire, then matured with international institutions of the post-war period, eventually challenged by decolonization, it now appears decidedly opposed by a resurgent digized Demos.
