In a riveting debut thriller that has drawn comparisons to masters of the genre like Dennis Lehane and Michael Connelly, Brian Freeman weaves obsession, sex, and revenge into a story that grips the reader with vivid characters and shocking plot twists from the first minute to the last.

Narrator’s female voices were painful
Revisado: 05-20-23
I had a hard time getting past the narration. It was hard to get into the story when the women sounded so dorky. I liked that the story took place in Duluth MN, and I liked the main character.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

What a brilliant listen
Revisado: 01-11-23
The performance was amazing. Great narrator. Such a departure from the books I listen too. It’s long, but kept my interest.

Criminology academic Kate Marshall is on a scuba jaunt with her son when they dive toward a shocking discovery: the body of a teenage boy entangled below the surface of the Shadow Sands reservoir. The detective chief inspector’s too-quick narrative of a tragic drowning doesn’t add up, and when Kate follows the evidence, it leads to a darker discovery.

A great listen
Revisado: 08-22-22
This is the second book of the series, and it was great. Love the characters. Great storyline and very creative. Not too graphic, not too much gore, but still suspenseful. I plan to order the next book tonight!

A great plot
Revisado: 07-20-22
I don’t understand all the criticism. I am constantly listing to mysteries and found this storyline to be clever, engaging and full of twists and turns. All in all a great story with good narration and performance.

It didn’t. I’ve enjoyed other books by this author — but this one bugs big time.

Historia
On a foggy summer night, 11 people - 10 privileged, one down-on-his-luck painter - depart Martha's Vineyard on a private jet headed for New York. Sixteen minutes later, the unthinkable happens: The plane plunges into the ocean. The only survivors are the painter Scott Burroughs and a four-year-old boy, who is now the last remaining member of an immensely wealthy and powerful media mogul's family. Was it by chance that so many influential people perished? Or was something more sinister at work?

Interesting, then the fall.
Revisado: 08-28-21
Overall, the book held my interest. I wanted to understand why the events happened. I felt like the author got tired of writing and let a hack write the ending. I had to ask myself why someone would make such an effort writing and producing it and then just let it end with something so lame.
