Just not for me
Revisado: 09-04-23
Could not get into it. The story was mostly just steady stream of talking and the characters’ voices were all too similar and hard to determine who was speaking.

I wanted to like it, but I could not
Revisado: 02-03-20
The story was promising but honestly the narrator did not fit the dialogue. I listened to it almost all the way through and then had to give up. It wasn’t the voice so much as the intonation of her reading that just did not work for me. 🤔

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Wonderful book
Revisado: 01-10-20
I am not sure when I have read a book I enjoyed this much. It was written in such a conversational style that I felt like I was speaking directly with the characters. I’m missing them a lot now that I have finished the book.
I loved the use of different narrators and the pronunciations were completely believable.
I was worried that the fantasy element would overwhelm the story but it was so amazingly woven into the story and characters that I forgot it was fantasy. What a joy this book was!!

Revisado: 09-28-19
I wanted to like this book but darn that Alice character was hard to listen to. Too much whining and saying the same things over and over again. But Aleene was so much better and saved the entire book. Sorry I know lots of people liked it a lot but it grew very tedious with Alice’s voice and whining and self-righteousness.

Revisado: 07-18-18
I really only knew a little about the Romanovs— basically the execution of Nicholas II Family. So this was a really thorough description of the rest of this interesting and doomed family. So sad to read but it provided incredible insight into the events leading up to the demise of the dynasty. Great storytelling technique.

Spellbinding Way to Tell the Circe Story
Revisado: 04-16-18
I ❤️ Greek and Roman and Norse myths but they leave out much of the “mortal” emotions and this book made the Circe story come alive.
I was not sure at first about the story line, but honestly it was incredibly captivating once I got into it.
The author must have done massive research to develop the details of the book. The images she conjures are so real, I do think this would make a wonderful film. So happy I bought it!!!🤗
