Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

A great story with (mostly) good narration
Revisado: 05-18-24
I really enjoyed the story and the primary narrator. Choosing to have the final chapter narrated by someone different, though, was really jarring. While I'm sure the narrator is great, it felt like he didn't know what the characters were meant to sound like and, as a result, there was zero connection to the characters in what should have been an emotional and tevelatoey) revelatory final chapter.

Delightfully Narrated, Passionate Storytelling
Revisado: 12-16-20
Elder Blood is a refreshing novel to tune in to. It is filled to the brim with colorful characters, unexpected turn of events, magic and mortals and the full range of human emotions within a trying set of events.
The myriad of voices are delightfully narrated which makes it easy to get lost in the story.
I can't wait to see how the story continues to unfold. Looking forward to the next book already!

I just don't get the hype ...
Revisado: 06-06-20
Huge fantasy fan. It's basically all I listen to, I've put off The Wheel of Time because it just felt like such a huge undertaking. But I recently decided to take the plunge. I got through the first three books and about a third of the way through the fourth, but the entire journey was trudging. I ended up returning all of them.
My main gripe is how deeply unlikeable practically all of the female characters are. I'm all for strong female characters (hello Brandon Sanderson!), but I dreaded every single time one of Jordan's female characters opened their mouths or--God forbid--had a chapter dedicated to their perspective.
They just feel like shallow, angry, petty characters who radically careen between being love-struck with one of the main characters, hating men, and feeling entitled to everything around them.
I gave the Wheel of Time more of a trial than I would any other series just given the length. I figured maybe there was some character arch that would be redeeming. But when 3/4ths of the characters remain deeply unlikeable after 80+ hours of listening ... I just can't do it anymore.
Kate Reading and Michael Kramer are as amazing as always, though. Just wish I could sit through Jordan's portrayal of women.
