Patty Schemel was a drummer at the epicenter of the Seattle grunge scene in the early '90s, best known for her work with the alternative rock band Hole. I was struggling with heroin addiction during the nineties, and hole was my favourite band. What more can I say? I was bound to love this book from the start. I got clean in 2001, and Patty a few years later. Brilliant book, told by the author, raw and unplugged.

Fantastic book buy a man who knows his stuff.
Revisado: 09-10-16
Being that it has a little home grown feel to it, I think this will put many people off. Don't stress about his accent or slightly faltering speech. He is enthusiastic, and a wealth of knowledge. He is right on track with his recommendations, and foods to eat, as well as supplements. I think he said he was 22? How does someone become so wise, so young! This is a fantastic book, that goes into the science yet is never boring.

A surprising depth.
Revisado: 11-14-11
I always thought of Carrie as that annoying superficial model that slept her way into her career. That may of been true in part in her early years but I soon found myself drawn deeper into her story and found a surprising deth there. She has overcome a violent marrige to Mickey Rourke, a hardcore drug addiction and many other trials in her life. She found her way to grace and harmony, to being honest in herself and creating a positive future. She used her faith to heal her past and found her way back onto her highest path.
Her story draws you in, takes you by the hand and shows you the world behind the looking glass.

Historia
In A Thousand Lives, the New York Times best-selling memoirist Julia Scheeres traces the fates of five individuals who followed Jim Jones to South America as they struggled to first build their paradise, and then survive it. Each went for different reasons - some were drawn to Jones for his progressive attitudes towards racial equality, others were dazzled by his claims to be a faith healer. But once in Guyana, Jones' drug addiction, mental decay, and sexual depredations quickly eroded the idealistic community.

A haunting tale
Revisado: 11-03-11
If not for the fact that it is a true story you would never believe this haunting tale. The horror of it belies belief but we all know these events did take place. This book allows you to live inside this cult and see it from their perspective. It follows the stories of several people and how they came to be part of this ordeal. It is horror at it's most evil, yet told in a dignified and intelligent way. No sensationalism here, just the facts in a calm, calculated manner. This book will stay with you long after you are finished and perhaps you to will give your children an extra hug at night all the while sparing a thought for the hundreds of murdered Jonestown children.
Noone sets out to join a cult. These people dreamed of a better life and were mislead and lied to until it was too late to turn back. How could it go so wrong? This book reminded me of "Lord of the flies". Of how in the right inviroment we can all turn into brutal savages.
