The story didn't end. It just stopped.
Revisado: 06-26-24
I felt this was a waste of time. No ending and now I don't really care what happens next. An interesting possibility of a story that was strangled in the inept execution. I'm sorry I stuck with it.

This one of the best alternate histories I have ever read. The story has a finish but left me wanting more because the people and situation is so compelling! Fascinating in so many ways.

Historia
The epic and highly anticipated conclusion to the listener-favorite series that had countless Audible listeners (and employees) hooked from the very first Bob - featuring, as always, a flawless performance from the inimitable Ray Porter. Being a sentient spaceship really should be more fun. But after spreading out through space for almost a century, Bob and his clones just can't stay out of trouble. They've created enough colonies so humanity shouldn't go extinct.

Excellent ending to a superb trilogy
Revisado: 08-11-17
I thoughly enjoyed this trilogy. It is funny and fascinating sf story on one level. it is also tackles the big philosophical questions. What does it mean to be human? what constitutes identity? what are our obligations to others? Does absolute power always corrupt? what are the some of the ramifications of immortality? And it is funny!

Historia
A resident of one of LA's toughest neighborhoods uses his blistering intellect to solve the crimes the LAPD ignores. East Long Beach. The LAPD is barely keeping up with the neighborhood's high crime rate. Murders go unsolved, lost children unrecovered. But someone from the neighborhood has taken it upon himself to help solve the cases the police can't or won't touch. They call him IQ. He's a loner and a high school dropout, his unassuming nature disguising a relentless determination and a fierce intelligence.

There is a HUGE problem with this story
Revisado: 12-22-16
It ends. There is not yet another in the series. Joe please do not do anything but write and sleep. This is one of those books you hear and see . Some people did not like the time switching. I usually don't. However, in this book I think it was a strength. This is a different type of detective hero. Alternating his rather amazing exploits with the events that formed him gives the story more texture and depth.
Fascinating story and characters. Excellent narration. This storyline ends but there is a lot more here!

mildly entertaining story of nerdly wizards. rather predictable. ok for a diverson but not deeply engaging in any way. to misquote my grandfather, you can read this before bed, eat a bowl of cheerios, and go to bed with nothing on your stomach and nothing on your mind.

Historia
Dave Robicheaux returns in another Bayou adventure, this one more gruesome and gut-wrenching than any that have come before. Hurricane Katrina has ravaged New Orleans, leaving the streets and buildings flooded and the city awash with opportunists, looters, and vicious criminals. There is no order, no law. Police are shooting randomly at innocent people, prison guards have abandoned their posts, and bodies float through the streets and hang from trees.

Eulogy for New Orleans
Revisado: 10-13-07
James Lee Burke's words put you in the eye of the storm and they are merciless. They do not let you escape the horror or the heartbreak of a city and people abandoned. There are, of course, murders and mystery. It is an excellent, exciting plot, but it pales beside the descriptions of the aftermath of the storm and the extreme failures. It is powerful and eloquent. The anger and loss are palable. However, while the book is dark and painful; it is not without hope and the redemption of people who do good even when others do evil.

Fun listen
Revisado: 11-03-06
I enjoyed the story -- the Camel club's conspiracy intertwined with a con game. It is not very believable -- but it is a lot of fun. I wished they had dropped the "he said"/ "she said" with the multiple narrators, but I enjoyed the multiple voices.
