Maximillian Bacchus is the ringmaster, ruler, guide, and owner of what he considers the greatest show in the world. Traveling with a crocodile named Malachi, a trapeze girl named Ophelia, a strongman they call Hero (which is short for Hieronymus), and a clown named Domingo de Ybarrondo, who paints in a wagon pulled by a giant ibis bird, the troupe wanders from adventure to adventure with mythic aplomb.

Historia
Death is reporter Jack McEvoy's beat: his calling, his obsession. But this time, death brings McEvoy the story he never wanted to write - and the mystery he desperately needs to solve. A serial killer of unprecedented savagery and cunning is at large. His targets: homicide cops, each haunted by a murder case he couldn't crack. The killer's calling card: a quotation from the works of Edgar Allan Poe. His latest victim is McEvoy's own brother. And his last...may be McEvoy himself.

Good narration, good ambiance!
Revisado: 10-12-12
Would you listen to The Poet again? Why?
I would listen to this again for sure! It is a great suspenseful story and compares well to other books by Connelly.
What does Buck Schirner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The narrator has great pacing and intonation. His voice was well suited to the main character as well.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I felt tense at time listening to the book, a fact that is telling of the quality. It was an appropriate response to this type of story.
Any additional comments?
If you like Connelly's other writing or books about fictional killers this book is for you!

Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

A solid performance
Revisado: 10-12-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Dracula [Audible Edition] to be better than the print version?
I think this performance is a good adjunct to the original text. The cast is strong and they bring great voices to the individual characters.
Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?
I always enjoy Simon Vance but Tim Curry was a rare treat and a fun voice for this book.
Any additional comments?
Overall this was an enjoyable book. Well done.

Poor narration ruins experience.
Revisado: 08-08-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If the narrator had not sounded as though she was reading from a page I would have rated this book with 4 stars. I enjoyed reading the book itself and I thought I would try the audiobook for my commute. I can't recommend this narrator at all. She just doesn't understand how to pace and lend expression to a sentence or paragraph so that it carries you on through the story. Her diction is perfect but she sounds stiff, unrehearsed and generally flat.
Would you recommend Catching Fire to your friends? Why or why not?
I would recommend reading the book. Skip the audiobook, it isn't worth the time or money.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Carolyn McCormick?
I'm not sure who I would cast in place of the current narrator but I do think that a younger person with a younger voice would help to relate the narration more closely to the character.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Catching Fire?
I couldn't even finish listening to the book. It really put me off.
Any additional comments?
I made the mistake of not listening to the sample beforehand. I really should have checked it out first. This is the first Audible book that I regret buying.
