I'm so glad that this book was audio, because I would have bought the book, either way to support a fellow Whitney M. Young Magnet High School classmate. The audio version allowed me to actually read it, complete it, and absorb every pearl until the end. I am inspired, enlightened, and feel even more connected to the author, Katrina who graduated a year or 2 ahead of me. I remember her very well from HS. I'm so proud to learn that she also grew up in my neighborhood on Chicago's West Side. I grew up in the Garfield Park area and learned to swim there. I swam at Avalon Park when I visited my grandparents on the South Side, and of course in high school. I wish I'd kept up with it in college, but I'm still a swimmer today because of Garfield Park. I felt the sentiments of her friend who said that we've done well for kids from Chicago's West Side! I also loved hearing her mention people that I know from high school like Daniel Duster and my sorority sister, Wendy Willis. I felt like I was right there with my Dolphin classmate on this journey. I'm so proud, and grateful for every accomplishment that she has described in these chapters. She probably has no idea how much I, and all of her classmates of the mid-80s claim every one of these accomplishments just as we do Michelle Obama's.
Thanks so much for her service to her sport, to young people, and to the readers of this book.

I loved finding out what happened with these women of Chicago's early history of the black elite. The narrator got on my last nerve with ending every sentence with a question mark. That grated. She didn't need to do that, smh. I didn't recall that in the 1st book.

To the author - Thank you for sharing your story. I'm so grateful for this opportunity to experience the range and depth of emotions that you expressed. Thanks again, and I'm so very sorry for your loss. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
I'm listening to this during the holiday season of 2023. I've just been asked to provide some friends with coping skills for their 1st holiday season after the loss of a loved one. This is priceless to anyone at any stage of loss.
I'm not sure how long I've had this production in my Audible library, but it called to me tonight.

If you're as fascinated by the minds of those that are creative enough to generate horror stories as I am, then here's an anthology of 19 modern and creepy tales from diverse authors, narrated by a couple of voices that are familiar to enjoy. These are right on time for the Halloween season! I loved the eerie Black Mirror/Lovecraftian/Octavia Butlerish feel of several of the stories, all with unusual endings. I am going to search out for the full version of many of the stories. I would also love to see all of these made into a TV series or into full-out horror films.

This story was priceless! I loved the Bridgerton-like stories set in historical Chicago of 4 budding romances. The gravy was how the author enlightened us on the burdens of generational socioeconomic values limiting the characters. Gender and racial inequalities were their own characters and were also interwoven throughout the story.
Great job on sharing how miraculous it was to overcome lost loves, maintain family ties, and successfully thrive those years of early emancipation!!
I'm ready for more of the Davenports!

This fictional story began somewhat like the reality of politics of the days of the novel's release date, Fact is stranger than fiction. I loved that the timeline was clearly noted to get the reader up to speed. The best thing, however, was that Keene's whole "Scooby Gang" all got back together! I loved how she eventually earned the respect of her biggest monsters. They recognized that she had what they loved about themselves... People had always underestimated them, too.
This story left me wondering more about the "grandmother of water."
I'm looking forward to learning more about my country while trying to keep up with Avery Keene's on her next cray-cray treasure hunt.

Loved it!

This novel's heroine gets thrown into an unprecedented crisis with the added pressure of time. She and her friends all have near genius levels of intelligence in their respective areas of expertise, which compliment her unyielding loyalty; an overall theme.

They take the listener/reader on a roller-coaster ride through the Supreme Court, Congress, right up to White House, all while being stalked by threats from every branch of law enforcement and the military.

This novel is a suspense filled treasure hunt through civics, law, science, medicine, history, literature, geography, religion, astronomy, psychology, addiction, technology, and especially chess!

This would make a wonderful movie or even better, a series!

I purchased this in Nov 2020. Read it at my leisure, mostly in the last few months, and I loved it. The last chapter was my absolute favorite. It left me reminiscing on what things were like before the Twilight Zone music began.
