As a spiritual but not religious man who left the church years ago I found this book to not only help me understand what it is that I loved about christianity and what I hated about it, but it also gave me the appropriate context for properly interpreting greek history, christian history and the underlying themes of what christianity actually meant in the time it was conceived and how far removed it's become from it's original intent. Muraresku not only presents a revisionist history of the past with strong evidence through understanding the brewing process as a whole, interpreting ancient greek texts, and new scientific techniques through testing residue from sacramental cups - but he takes the reader on a journey with a light spirit, he shows you the characters and big personalities behind the archaeologists of our time who are so important to our culture for keeping the past alive lest we forget it. I really enjoyed this book, it changed the way I view ancient history and christianity, this book had me dusting off my old bible and opening it and reading it again, this book got me to pick up some LSD and go on trip in search for the ego death that so many people speak of as a way of "being born again". If you're a christian, you should read this. if you're an atheist who loves greek history, you should read this. If you're spiritual but not religious, you should read this. If you're into psychedelics than you should read this. If you're a big history nerd than you should read this. This book was a game changer for me as it gave me the proper context in which to interpret the church, the gospels, and ancient history as a whole sp as to make me much less cynical of Christian's. Muraresku can be harsh in his criticisms of the church on many fronts in this book, the irony is that his work just may have saved the christian faith and given it a bright new future in hopes of bringing back the original psychedelic eucharist.

I've noticed a lot of negative reviews on this book by emotionally hijacked Trump supporters. they hate this book for two reasons: firstly, it sheds light on the fact that nazism/fascism/anti-semitism had a real movement right here at home - right here in America. which leads to the second reason they hate this book, because it legitimizes "anti-fascism" as a political philosophy rooted in history. If they're triggered by the word "Anti-fascist", it's probably because they're Trump-fascists.

Howard Zinn unapologetically confronts American exceptionalism from the very first pages and never looks back.

From the the broken treaties with indians to the institutional racism of the blacks, to the labor movements which pushed the New Deal: Zinn peers through the eyes of the people struggles of this country, not the established leaders perspective which is sure to trigger many on the political right.

The book is dense, and each chapter could be a book or several books within their own right. I liked that it was narrated by the authors brother, Jeff Zinn: whose voice mirrors his brothers. You really get the feel that the book is being narrated by the author himself but I do feel that Jeff rushes through the oratory from time to time and believe he could have taken a little more time.

Ultimately, the title of the book says it all: A Peoples History of The United States, contrasting the american exceptionalist history mouth fed by mainstream media outlets across the country. This should be required reading of all Americans, especially middle class America who need to know their history now more than ever.
