Historia
In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

I read a book by a Cheney
Revisado: 03-10-24
I never imagined I’d have share the same grounds with a Cheney. Here I am in awe of Ms. Cheneys courage and patriotism. I watched all of the Jan. 6th hearings but were reminded of some key points. It seems impossible to forget some of the aspects but it was something out of a bad movie. I only hope those that are finally coming to realize how they’ve been duped, actually read this book.

Historia
There is no question that the United States faces dangerous threats from without; the greatest peril to the country, however, comes from within. In The Bill of Obligations, bestselling author Richard Haass argues that, to solve our climate of division and safeguard our democracy, the very idea of citizenship must be revised and expanded. The Bill of Rights is at the center of our Constitution, yet the most intractable conflicts often emerge from cases that, as former Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer pointed out, “are not about right versus wrong. They are about right versus right.”

Revisado: 07-04-23
As always, Richard Haass delivers a timely and thought provoking book. I only hope those who *need* to read it, do so. Not only are his recommendations for being a good citizen important but his views on civics and how to get young folks involved should be put into practice by local and federal government.

Historia
The time is 1933, the place, Berlin, when William E. Dodd becomes America’s first ambassador to Hitler’s Germany in a year that proved to be a turning point in history. A mild-mannered professor from Chicago, Dodd brings along his wife, son, and flamboyant daughter, Martha. At first Martha is entranced by the parties and pomp, and the handsome young men of the Third Reich with their infectious enthusiasm for restoring Germany to a position of world prominence. Enamored of the “New Germany,” she has one affair after another....

This is an important story of these seductive allure to strong man tactics mixed with dangerously intelligent propaganda. The ambassador saw a creeping seduction and could do little with it. Great story.

From one of our sharpest political thinkers, a brilliant big-picture vision of how to bridge the bitter divides within diverse democracies. Never in history has a democracy succeeded in being both diverse and equal, treating different ethnic or religious groups fairly. And yet achieving that goal is now central to the democratic project.

I’ve read quite a few books on democracy the last few years for obvious reasons. This one was very good. The author managed to hit on issues from both the right and the left as well as possible solutions for all democratic backsliding.

If you, someone you love, a child, a friend has dyslexia, I recommend this book. This is an outstanding way to get an understanding of how your brain operates differently and how Thais without dyslexia do not have some of the advantages of those differences.

Historia
Zero day: a software bug that allows a hacker to break into your devices and move around undetected. One of the most coveted tools in a spy's arsenal, a zero day has the power to silently spy on your iPhone, dismantle the safety controls at a chemical plant, alter an election and shut down the electric grid (just ask Ukraine). For decades, under cover of classification levels and non-disclosure agreements, the United States government became the world’s dominant hoarder of zero days.

Historia
In Hatchet Man, former federal prosecutor Elie Honig uncovers Barr’s unprecedented abuse of power as Attorney General and the lasting structural damage done to the Justice Department. Honig uses his own experience as a prosecutor at DOJ to show how, as America’s top law enforcement official, Barr repeatedly violated the Department’s written rules, and those vital, unwritten norms and principles that comprise the “prosecutor’s code”.

Revisado: 07-18-21
Honig manages to keep the attention of those in the know and still reach those that didn’t real pay much attention to Barr’s malfeasance.
His ability to use real life experience to compare them to dishonesty Barr displayed during his time as AG. These comparisons often displayed the stunning hypocrisy by Barr.
One of the most important parts is Honig pointing Barr’s distain for secular society and his attempts at steering the country to serve his beliefs, rather than the oath he took to the constitution.

Historia
At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak—that we owe many of the great contributions to society.

People are always surprised when I tell them I’m an introvert. At work, I’m affable, funny, and create a fun morale. At the end of the day, especially the end of the week, I can’t wait to go home and recharge.
My boss often has me in charge of work events and it makes me super uncomfortable. For the most part, I go along with it but I plan on speaking with privately about it. I believe he will be receptive and obviously, very surprised.
I wish this was more understood when I was growing up but I’m happy for the kids that might be better understood because of books like this and studies associated.
I got especially excited when you quoted Malcom Gladwell, an author and journalist I deeply respect. I loved how you included some huge names that most people wouldn’t realize were introverts.
Thank you again for this wonderful work. I learned more than I knew, which is always the goal. I enjoyed it so much that have ordered a physical copy and plan on reading it as well.
