Ok
Revisado: 07-22-20
How do you find a 9 year old cell phone still charged so it turns on🤔. A little disconnect in that part of the story. However it’s late enough in the book you will be able to enjoy for the most part an interesting read even if it is a nit far fetched.

Historia
People say Beartown is finished. A tiny community nestled deep in the forest, it is slowly losing ground to the ever encroaching trees. But down by the lake stands an old ice rink, built generations ago by the working men who founded this town. And in that ice rink is the reason people in Beartown believe tomorrow will be better than today. Their junior ice hockey team is about to compete in the national semifinals, and they actually have a shot at winning.

Too dark for me
Revisado: 08-30-17
I tried to read this book but ended up skipping ahead to finish. I've loved all the other books by Backman so I was disappointed when I couldn't get into this one. I so wanted to like it. The narrator was great; I just didn't like the story:

Another Great Read/Listen
Revisado: 03-11-17
I enjoyed everything about this book. It was just as good as the first Beth Hoffman book, SAVING CEE CEE HONEYCUTT, I read. Finding Me is not your usual finding yourself narrative. I think all who read it could identify with some parts of it. if nothing else, it will hold your interest. very satisfying read....

Historia
Laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, Beth Hoffman's sparkling debut is, as Kristin Hannah says, "packed full of Southern charm, strong women, wacky humor, and good old-fashioned heart." It is a novel that explores the indomitable strengths of female friendship and gives us the story of a young girl who loses one mother and finds many others.

I loved just about everything about this book!
Revisado: 02-26-17
I thought the narrator was perfect, and as for the story, the conflicts were resolved to my total satisfaction without being a long drawn out drama-ridden production. I teared up a little at times times and laughed out loud a lot! Well worth the credit!

Historia
It's 1998, and for years the old First Bank of Cleveland has sat abandoned, perfectly preserved, its secrets only speculated on by the outside world. Twenty years before, amid strange staff disappearances and allegations of fraud, panicked investors sold Cleveland's largest bank in the middle of the night, locking out customers and employees and thwarting a looming federal investigation. In the confusion that followed, the keys to the vault's safe-deposit boxes were lost.

Do you really know your Banker?
Revisado: 11-12-16
Where does The Dead Key rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Near the top
What other book might you compare The Dead Key to and why?
I haven't read any like this.
Have you listened to any of Emily Sutton-Smith’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but I plan to in the future.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Another reason to be cynical about big banks! OR
Is your money really safe in a big bank?
Any additional comments?
I loved this book. I hope it doesn't happen in real life, but it could; somewhat anyway!

Historia
Emerson Knight is introverted and eccentric and has little to no sense of social etiquette. Good thing he's also brilliant, rich, and (some people might say) handsome, or he'd probably be homeless. Riley Moon has just graduated from Harvard Business and Harvard Law. Her aggressive Texas spitfire attitude has helped her land her dream job as a junior analyst with megabank Blane-Grunwald. At least Riley Moon thought it was her dream job, until she is given her first assignment: babysitting Emerson Knight.

Revisado: 09-12-16
Part of the reason I enjoyed this book was because of the narrator. I enjoy listening to almost anything narrated by Lorelei King. Also, the story kept my interest throughout. Worth every penny since I didn't have any credits.

Historia
Change keeps stalking Edward Stanton. He and his new wife, Sheila, have retreated to his small house in Montana after an unsuccessful attempt at operating a motel in Colorado. That failure has left wounds, especially for Sheila, and now they face a bigger challenge: pregnancy and impending parenthood. Edward begins penning notes to the child (ever precise, he refers to the gestating being as "Cellular Stanton"), as he navigates married life with Sheila, who is unhappy and unfulfilled in Montana; a work partnership with his friend Scott Shamwell, and more.

I do believe each book gets better. I laughed out loud in parts and teared up in parts. The author does such a good job with the character development that I wish they were real and I could meet them personally.

Historia
That’s the flummoxed state of Edward Stanton, a 42-year-old with Asperger’s syndrome. His job, his therapist, and his best friends are all gone. Even his nightly ritual of watching Dragnet reruns has short-circuited. But a call from his friend Donna in Idaho, telling him that her son Kyle is in trouble, launches Edward from his rigidly scheduled existence in Billings, Montana, to the open road. He and Kyle, a sweet little boy turned sullen adolescent, debate football, music, and bodily functions (“Why do you pee so much?” Kyle asks).

Even better than the first book
Revisado: 08-19-15
I thought 600 Hours of Edward was good; it was, but Edward Adrift gives further insight of how one, though smart but developmentally disabled, struggles to live in our so-called normal world. In this book Edward finds his purpose and happiness. His struggle and successful therapy pays off. Yay Edward! A very good read from a very good narrator!
However, I would recommend reading 600 Hours of Edward first.

Historia
God Is Disappointed in You is for people who would like to read the Bible...if it would just cut to the chase. Stripped of its arcane language and interminable passages, every book of the Bible is condensed down to its core message, in no more than a few pages each. Written by Mark Russell with cartoons by New Yorker cartoonist Shannon Wheeler, God Is Disappointed in You is a frequently hilarious, often shocking, but always accurate retelling of the Bible, including the parts selectively left out by Sunday School teachers.

Revisado: 04-04-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes I would. If the Bible had originally been written this way, I think we would be much closer to world peace.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The narrator.
Which character – as performed by James Urbaniak – was your favorite?
All of them.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me chuckle and more than a few times go "Ahah, I wondered what that meant"
Any additional comments?
I have tried several times reading the bible from the beginning and ended up just using it to help me overcome insomnia. (Never made it past Genesis). Even the Bible verses I learned in Sunday School, I understand much better now. I think it's a shame so many religious leaders and pious zealots pick and choose only the verses they can interpret to promote their own narrow minded beliefs and claim it to be The Truth".
