Historia
Sergey and Marina Dyachenko mix dramatic scenes with romance, action and wit, in a style both direct and lyrical. Written with a sure artistic hand, The Scar is the story of a man driven by his own feverish demons to find redemption and the woman who just might save him. Egert is a brash, confident member of the elite guards and an egotistical philanderer. But after he kills an innocent student in a duel, a mysterious man known as “The Wanderer” challenges Egert and slashes his face with his sword, leaving Egert with a scar that comes to symbolize his cowardice.

Totally drew me in!
Revisado: 11-13-12
Where does The Scar rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is one of my favourites so far. I loved the way the fantasy elements blended seamlessly into the background, with the story driven by strong characterisations and intense personal experiences.
If I hadn't read that it had been translated I would have assumed it was written in English - admittedly by someone with the seriousness I associate with Russian literature.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Scar?
The key traumas experienced by the lead lead character were very vivid.
Which scene was your favorite?
I loved the gradual evolution of the relationship between the male and female leads. It was such a wonderful twist on the usual fantasy relationships.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
I just don't think this book would make a film, people wanting fantasy movies would expect a lot more action and less character interaction driving the plot.
Any additional comments?
I can heartily recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy as a genre but is looking for a little more depth to the characters.

A good Aussie tale
Revisado: 11-06-12
Where does The Bone Is Pointed rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Smack bang in the middle.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
"Saw it coming from a mile off" would be a better description. But that was part of the fun. What kept me going was the pleasure of an Australian story, after way too many listens from the other side of the planet.
Have you listened to any of Peter Hosking’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is my first, and an enjoyable listen it was.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
An occasional small smile.
Any additional comments?
This is not highbrow literature, and has its fair share of cardboard cut out characters, but they were fun cutouts.

Historia
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

Fact really is stranger than fiction
Revisado: 01-27-11
A ripping yarn - made all the more engaging by being about real events, or at least an interpretation of real events. Being a devotee of books of escapist fiction, I was surprised to find myself sucked into this book so completely. A story you can't help related parts of to anyone who will listen.
The narration was good. I can definitely see myself listening to this one again!

Historia
In what is considered one of Heinlein's most hair-raising, thought-provoking, and outrageous adventures, the master of modern science fiction tells the strange story of an even stranger world. It is 21st-century Luna, a harsh penal colony where a revolt is plotted between a bashful computer and a ragtag collection of maverick humans, a revolt that goes beautifully until the inevitable happens. But that's the problem with the inevitable: it always happens.

Optomistic writing of a bygone era
Revisado: 01-27-11
I enjoyed this book overall. The narration worked for me, with different voices mostly distinguishable - and some memorable characters, if a little idealistic.
The technology side of the writing is clearly dated and this was a distraction. The cultural predictions of the story were difficult for me to untangle from my guesses at the cultural norms of the era when the book was written.
