Historia
Since she inherited the Starfish Café, Hollie has poured her heart into the business, striving to keep her mother's traditions and warm-hearted spirit alive. But behind closed doors, Hollie is searching for true happiness, as she grieves the tragic loss of her family who were once the beating heart of the café. Jake lives by two rules: don’t let anyone get close, and don’t talk about what happened. Can Hollie and Jake break down the barriers that have been holding them back from finding love and happiness before Christmas comes around? With courage, nothing is impossible.

Could not finish despite my best efforts...

I'm really disappointed with this one. The plot started off a bit slow, but seemed promising so I kept with it. Unfortunately, it felt like the story didn't really get going until nearly chapter 30. I wanted to like the characters so bad, but the story became borderline ridiculous with how many tragic events had happened to both of the leads. I eventually found myself rolling my eyes every time the author unveiled yet another terrible life event that one of the leads had endured, which is not what I want to feel for the characters I'm spending 10+ hours with. Also the speed at which the romance took place felt very juvenile and kind of over the top. To be completely candid, the whole story seriously felt like something my middle school niece would think up while playing with Barbies. All high drama, characters falling in love in the blink of an eye, two dimensional villains, and even complete with a cute little dog (Mr. Pickles was pretty great though).
Overall, this one defeated me. It has been added to my very small DNF pile. I was close to the end (probably within an hour or so), but I couldn't push through even with listening to it at 2x speed. Definitely bummed.

A Whimsical Tale of Found Family and Love
Revisado: 01-28-24
This honestly may be my favorite book I've ever read. The plot/pacing is great and the characters will always have a special place in my heart. The story is a cozy and just overall lovely tale. The narrator does a great job with all the different voices for the large cast of characters, too. I could listen to it over and over again.

Historia
When Major Rufus d’Aumesty unexpectedly becomes the Earl of Oxney, he finds himself living in a remote Norman manor on the edge of Romney Marsh with his noble, hostile, and decidedly odd family. His position is contested both by his greedy uncle and by unexpected claimant Luke Doomsday, a dashing member of the local smuggling clan. They should be natural enemies, but cocksure, enragingly competent Luke is a secretary by trade and quickly becomes an unexpected ally, the partner Rufus needs...and soon the lover he can't live without.

Another great story with engaging, complex characters and a well thought out plot that had me listening for hours straight needing to know what was going to happen next. The narration was fantastic as well. I hope there will be more Doomsday Books in the future!

This is such a fun and goofy podcast full of colorful and hilarious characters. The writing is fantastic and the voice actors all do such an amazing job. I'm not usually into scripted podcasts, but this one was so well done that I'm thinking I might begin dipping more into the medium. Cannot recommend this one enough!

A Spooky, Whimsical Tale
Revisado: 10-17-22
It's no secret that Neil Gaiman is a master at writing dark and whimsical stories - Coraline being no exception - however I was equally blown away by the fact that he is such an amazing narrator. The cadence of his voice fit the material seamlessly and the many voices he did for the cast of character never felt forced or strained. All in all, I would listen to this man read a phonebook.
As for the story, it was haunting, yet heart-warming and left me very satisfied as well. A perfect listen for a rainy October night or just a commute into work on a regular old Tuesday. I loved Coraline and will be listening to it again soon.
