Amy and Swift
Revisado: 10-02-24
This book read like a long epilogue to Comanche Moon. While I enjoyed getting the story of Swift and Amy some of the trauma Amy had to endure was hard to read. This book was well written from the perspective of dealing gently with PTSD and how one can overcome trauma and find happiness again.

Historia
One of romance fiction’s most popular storytellers, Catherine Anderson hits the New York Times best-seller list with each of her scintillating works. Reissued after being out of print for many years, Indigo Blue is one of Anderson’s early gems. In it, a high-spirited woman named Indigo—who is half Comanche and half white—lives a solitary existence among the Oregon folk who don’t understand her. But that all changes when Jake Rand rolls into town.

I enjoyed getting Indigo's story but felt the romance was a bit lacking. I will finish up the series with the next book.

Forever into the Horizon
Revisado: 09-24-24
I'm not sure I am supposed to like this book as much as I did. There is kidnapping and consent issues in the beginning that I wasn't sure the author could overcome but I feel she did. To really enjoy this book you need to put on your old school romance googles. The description of the Comanche people and how they lived was excellent. The author did an nice job bringing in the extended family of both sides and humanizing all. I really loved how the hero spoke in his limited English which comes out sounding bluntly poetic. My favorites are "my heart in on the ground" or "my strong arm is yours forever into the horizon until I am dust in the wind". The things Hunter says to Loretta....truly is the best part of this book.

This book was a high 4 star read. I'm not sure why--not much happened except pining after each other but I really enjoyed the longing and the fighting banter between the MCs.

Goldquest romance
Revisado: 09-10-24
This is the weakest of the series so far. The hero, Reno was just such an a-hole to the heroine for 90% of the book and was too little too late to have any believable true love/romance story. I did learn a bit about mining gold ore and really enjoyed learning about SW Colorado and the Mesa Verde area. I will finish up the series with Rafe's story.

Post Civil War Romance
Revisado: 08-30-24
his is my first Elizabeth Lowell book and I really enjoyed it! The author did an excellent job describing the journey through the Rocky Mountains. This was a very slow burn and done well. The connection the heroine had to her prize Arabian horses was very touching and I was invested in each horse and it's survival almost like another relationship in the story. I will read more of this author as I do enjoy her banter.

Mixed feelings
Revisado: 08-30-24
Oh my, this book is hard to rate since it was written in the 90s and must be viewed as an old school romance book. Parts of this book were great and I enjoyed the descriptions of the heroine and how she perceived the world through her deafness. Other parts of the book were icky with the heroine's childlike mindset giving questions about her ability to understand and consent did bother me. I think the author really tried to write about a difficult subject and give a HEA and I don't think this book would be written today in the same way. I will try another book by this author and see how her writing stands the test of time.

Historia
In the best-selling tradition of Truman, two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer David Herbert Donald offers a new classic in American history and biography - a masterly account of how one man's extraordinary political acumen steered the Union to victory in the Civil War, and of how his soaring rhetoric gave meaning to that agonizing struggle for nationhood and equality.

Insight in Lincoln's legacy
Revisado: 08-20-24
I have completed my 30 hour audiobook Lincoln history course! This journey began when I visited his Springfield, IL home this summer. I have learned so much about Lincoln and the Civil War. The man was the ultimate politician and I have a great appreciation for how his calculated actions saved the Union. What most surprised me was how Lincoln was willing to make almost any compromise in order to save the Union including keeping the institution of slavery. I did not realize the Emancipation Proclamation only freed the slaves in the rebel territories and those slaves in Union control did not go free until the end of the war. The man had to deal with so much conflict throughout his life: poverty in childhood, election drama, cabinet in-fighting, firing generals, navigating states rights, the Constitution and reconstruction. I feel that I understand more about how and why Lincoln did certain actions and I am sad to think of all the death and hatred our country went through during this time. Poor Lincoln did not even get time to enjoy the victory as he was assassinated 5 days after the South's surrender and became "One for the ages". Thank you President Lincoln for finishing the job.
