Historia
Rosalyn Devar is on the run from her famous family, the bioengineering job she's come to hate, and her messed-up life. She's run all the way to outer space, where she's taken a position as a "space janitor", cleaning up ill-fated research expeditions. But no matter how far she goes, Rosalyn can't escape herself. After too many mistakes on the job, she's given one last chance: take care of salvaging the Brigantine, a research vessel that has gone dark, with all crew aboard thought dead. But the Brigantine's crew are very much alive - if not entirely human.

After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

Imaginative and complex and well worth listening to, though, as with Tade Thompson's other writings, it can be confusing to follow at times.

Historia
Scott Warden is a man haunted by the past-and soon to be haunted by the future. In early 21st-century Thailand, Scott is an expatriate slacker. Then, one day, he inadvertently witnesses an impossible event: the violent appearance of a 200-foot stone pillar in the forested interior. Its arrival collapses trees for a quarter mile around its base, freezing ice out of the air and emitting a burst of ionizing radiation. It appears to be composed of an exotic form of matter.

Apt for our times
Revisado: 05-15-22
Terrific narration of a relatively slow moving story. Speaks to our times because of the warring factions and the willingness of humans to create divisions where none are necessary.

Kind of a mess
Revisado: 04-15-22
The story had a lot of potential but the action kept reaching climaxes that had to be the conclusion only to reset and begin again and finally it was "enough already." Add to that lots of lame emotional and romantic stuff with lame dialog and we were yearning for the end...but we were listening on a long drive and stuck with it.
However, if it weren't for the always superb performance by Simon Vance we could not have lasted to the end.
